    • Hey! Now everyone hates me!

OK, so I recently have been playing EV again trying to be on the Confederation side this time, and I get that 'mission' where you are jumped in a bar and told to go destroy a Confederate ship and defect to the Rebellion. Well, I didn't do it, but I didn't abort the mission either, I just thought about it but left it up there. Quite a while later I decided to abort it, and lo and behold I had acquired a 'Public Enemy' rating in all Confed space. Huh?

Of course, by that time in the game I'd pissed off the Rebellion pretty firmly too, and let's just say that EV isn't very fun when all you can do to keep being shot at is shuttle between Levo and Kathoon . . .

I've gotten back to a 'decent' rating in many Rebellion systems (killing pirates and confed ships) but no Rebellion missions have been offered, so I might have to start another pilot, though I'd been getting fond of this one. Can I at least salvage some rebellion fun from this pilot or did the pro-confed missions I did already do 'irreversible' things?

    • The standard switch sides mission is pretty lame - it doesn't affect any of the mission bits, so you're still allied with the Confederation, if you can get your legal rating back up. It's one of the little things I've modified in a little, non-released patch I normally use, such that you can start over with the Rebellion after getting that destroying the Confed Frigate.

But as for your pilot, basically, it's rather messed up now. Sorry.

Oh, and welcome to the boards. 🙂

    • Yeah, I too have found that I make several small edit to the ev data file for things like that. If you do not know how, I could make you a patch similar to what Macavenger is talking about. Or even one that just clears the mission bit without doing anything.

Or if you want your good rating for confeds again, go to one of the pirate systems (I think it is the southern one) and buy the fake ID card. It's a few million credits, but it's the fastest and easiest way to get the confed you like you again.

    • Of course, many would consider that "cheating"...

But actually, playing the Galactic Scourge plugin, I did something really cool (this is a little off-topic). I was in the middle of doing the "Remove Confed Menace" mission string, or whatever it's callled, and I landed on one of Sol's ports and got the Switch Sides mission...then I went to a Confed system and found the "Remove Rebel Scourge" mission! So now, I have both strings, BOTH the Rebs and Feds love me and I'm the biggest double-triple crosser the galaxy has ever known (did I mention I am also working for Astex AND Diphidia, not to mention NASA and the Aliens?)

Uh, that word? You spelled it wrong. Yeah, that one right there, next to the period. And you're missing an apostrophe in the word "its".

How the ____ did you do that? When I play GS, I have to start a new pilot file every time I want to work for someone else, because all of the missions make everyone but your government mad at you. :frown:

    • I am just that hip 😉 So hip, I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis 😛

Actually, I already had the Confed killing missions, then when I switched sides, I picked up the Rebel killing ones and finished doing the Confed ones (almost, actually, my 'Vette can't take on the 93rd Squadron :frown: ) So I got up to the defense platform, and haven't been playing much since...

    • Thanks all!

So even if I'd aborted the mission right away I'd have gotten the 'Public Enemy' confed rating?

If I'm not barred from doing Confed missions I think I'll just go buy the fake ID card (thanks for the patch offer, though, ares1). Hmm, cheating built right into the game? Cool!

p.s. thanks, Macavenger, for the welcome!

    • A very similar thing happened to me, and now I'm stuck in a Kestral with barely any money, and most of the galaxy hating me. Drat.

    • It may have been a bug. IIRC, that mission is supposed to decrease your standing with the confederation, so it should have increased it on abort.

The normal Switch Sides mission is rather lame, indeed. My plug Switch Sides has a version that actually lets you run rebel missions, and which has a similar mission for the confeds. If you can't find it on the addons page, it's in the public folder of my iDisk (and I'll put a link to it on my website as soon as I get a round tuit.)

    • I just hopped down to one of the Pirate ports and bought a Fake ID, so after only a loss of a couple of million, I'm back working for the 'feds again.

Actually, it's a very 'life-like' feature of EV that I enjoy--that sometimes $^^&t; happens. Like when you're trying
to work your way out of a shuttlecraft and just happen to jump into a system and have the bad luck to appear
right next to 3 or 4 Corvette pirates. Oops!

      thanks all!

    • The trick to being a double agent is just getting the initiation missions for everything at the same time (Deliver Rebel Parcels and Confed Documents).
