    • Kestrel vs. Confed Frigate

      Well, the fighter polls seem to be dying down, so I thought i'd introduce the idea that occurred to me after the Clipper/Courier poll. If this isn't new, it hasn't been done in quite a while.

      I considered Rebel Destroyer vs. kestrel, since it's speed and shields are closer, then remembered what happens when you match an RD against anything. πŸ˜‰ So we'll have to use the Fed Frigate.

      The Fed Frigate claims to be much more powerful than the kestrel, but that's rather debatable. Guns and Turrets are the same. Space is about the same, though the Kestrel has a bit more cargo. The Frigate is better shielded, but the Kestrel is quicker and has the 2 Lightnings. And of course, the kestrel costs twice as much.

      I think I'd have to pick Kestrel because of it's slightly better turning. The Lightnings aren't that big a factor in most cases, and I appreciate the extra shields and weapons on a Frigate, but it's just a bit too clumsy for me. If it turned just a little better though, I'd take it over the Kestrel.

      I imagine the kestrel will probably win this, but it might be interesting anyway. So, post away with what you think.

      KESTREL BABY!! WHAT?! WHAT?!

      (I've been reading Boondocks lately ;))

      I hate the Feds. That sluggish piece of garbage gets on my nerves. And the Kestrel is just WAY cooler.

      I'd have to say Frigate if I was upgrading it.. you can't beat having that extra shielding and you can always buy upgrades for speed,etc

      Kestrel. More maneuverability plus I think it looks better. Lightnings are much better than patrol ships. They have armor. Plus if those lightnings make an accurate run, that's a good 20% shields off a cap ship.

      Well now, I vote Kestrel...

      But it depends on the array of outfits that are added on to each ship... But if they are just off the floor, then I choose Kestrel, even though the fighters it comes with suck!

      Frigate: 1 hit

      Kestrel all the way. Its shielding doesn't amount to the 'Fed Frigate, but its combined firepower and nasty Lightnings makes the fight even until the death.

      2 Mil is nothin if you have enough to buy a Kestrel though. Plus, if you like to cheat (which I don't), you can just modify your Kestrel in ResEdit, then get your ships back. Or, you can modify the Lightnings themselves to where they never die...

      But I don't like that. The only cheating I ever done is use the Forklift...

      I can certainly use the results. I've actually collected polls I never started and listed the results in a simpletext fire.

      The Kestrel is cooler, but the Confed Frigate has more secondaries and more room for enhancement. And, its only half the price. It is unquestionably more powerful in the hands of the player.

      I normally don't fly it, but I'm obviously voting for the frigate. It's got more space, and speed isn't a problem with a few upgrades. No expensive fighters to worry about either.
