I have to go for the Frigate due to it's greater shielding and weaponry. While admittedly I could easily destroy any ship with either, it's a lot more fun with a Frigate, as you can just plow in and raze the opponent with primaries and rockets, forgoing annoying evasion tactics.

So am I. Stock EV senario allows you to buy a thrust enhancement, engine upgrade, and RCS upgrade. Give all those to a kestrel and it will be as fast as a corvette.

Now I really am surprised. The Frigate has caught the Kestrel. I figured most people would take the Kestrel for its speed advantage.
ares - yes, the Kestrel can be as fast as the Corvette with speed upgrades, but to be fair, so can the Frigate. My main gripe with the Frigate is its poor turning. I demand at least Average turning rate from off the floor ships, generally. Aside from that important advantage, the Kestrel is also a bit faster and has fighters for which the Frigate has no counter.

I never really commented on the topic, so i will do that now.
The Frigate is, like you said, slow and fighterless. I have actually never flown it, but I have fought it. I, for reasons previously stated in this topic, am giving my vote to to the nimble and heavily armoured kestrel.

Well I'm placing my vote for the Kestrel. More speed, a lot of weapons space, and the Lightnings, if you choose to utilize them. There is the issue of price, but after you've defeated the Aliens, money isn't an issue anyway.
Of course, I usually fly a Corvette anyway.
