Yes, the grahpics in Pale were excellent. The only problem was that some, if not all of the re-done Confed ships (the Cruiser at least) lacked rear engines. It's not apparent in the normal EV, but with the semi-top down (1:2, I think) perspective that Matthew Dailey (or whoever did them) rendered Pale's ships in, you can see the problem.
As for EVO vs. EV., I'm not really sure Iif I still agree w/my former statement about EV having better graphics. The jury's still out. Anyway, I remember my first reactions when playing EVO (I had played EV before). What struck me was the fact that the EVO universe (I was still in human & Voinian space, did not even know about the Miranu, or the Crescent, at this time), seemd more primitive and "grittier" than EV. The darker textures, the solar panels, the mettalic look of things (compare the stations: EVO's human and Voinian stations look a lot less advanced than they do in EV) gave EVO a "gritty" sort of "early stage" look as compared to the more "futuristic" EV, with its smooth, white ships.
Also, I foolishly thought that EVO was the prequel to EV (it does seem plausible at first; you know, Voinian War is great war, the Voinians are the aliens, UE turns into Confederation, etc. ... once you see the difference in the maps the foolishness becomes apparent, but still ...)
God bless,
