    • Commodity Exchange question...


      As some of you know, I'm currently creating a user manual / guide to the Escape Velocity commodity and trade exchange. I had a simple question: Do items which are listed as (example) low ever move to another level (example: medium)? I know for a fact that some "low" items will sometimes go to "lower," and "high" items will sometimes go to "higher." But will the actual item level (low, medium, high) ever change?

      Answers would be appreciated. I'll probably have more questions in the future...

    • Are you asking if it will change without an disaster or "oops" occuring? If that is what you are asking, then no. Because the planets are all set to a certain level (high, med, low) for each commodity that they sell. The only want to change that is through a disaster, or what you seen on the news in the bar.

      Usually, a disaster makes it change a lot, ie. from low to higher or high to low or lower. Usually it goes from one extreme to another, because otherwise it makes almost no difference to the trader.

      If you are at the store and find that lettuce now costs $10 less, isn't that generally more exciting than 10 cents less? 🙂

      (note: if your lettuce cost more than $10, someone is scamming you. It was just an example)

    • Correct, the "disasters" were what I was referring to. sometimes they don't seem like disasters (example: "The price of food has risen do to a new recruit of officers"), but I believe these too operate along the same principles.

      But I just wanted to make sure that commodity levels don't rise / fall without the help of a disaster. Thanks for the help...

    • Nope. The disasters are all that can cause commodity prices to fluctuate.

      In Resedit the disaster resource is called, "oops". I think someone coined the term disaster simply due to lack for a better word. Or perhaps they used the word disaster before they had made the "oops" that weren't technically disasters. We may never know.

      Ok, I have about 2 hours worth of math to do. Later.

    • I have a lot of trouble with math. Not so much understanding it, but doing it. It's just so monotonous. All the time I try to do it, I start thinking about other stuff and can't concentrate. I don't have ADD or anything... I can do physical science, History, writing, but I can't stand math. It's so pointless.

    • As a side note, commodities normally listed as, i.e., medium, can still become "higher" due to an oops. So can ones marked low. The reverse holds for lower. Lower and higher are just generic terms for when an oops occurs.

      Yeap. Once I get some of that evula.net webspace and I've finished up the manual, I'll post it at Saber Studios and the addons page. It's taken me about four days alone to compile a list with all the EV planets and the commodities they sell, so as for when it's through is beyond me.

    • Errrr... Maybe this is a bad time to tell you, but you could have gotten similar information from the EV Atlas. It has maps with some of the commodity prices.

      Never heard of it... Available at the EV addons page, I suppose?

      Does this EV Atlas have some or all of the commodity prices? The list I just posted has every planet listed that features a commodity exchange...

    • It's been a while, so I'm not sure. It has all kinds of stuff; tech level, political map, and a bunch of other stuff. Seems to me that it had something about the commodities, but I'm not exactly sure if it had all the price or what. It should be in the EV-addons under guides.
