    • I prefer missiles over torpedoes. Missiles work better than torpedoes against fighters. 3 missiles disable a lightning. Plunder for 100K, and ~10% chance of capture. Torpedoes turn too slowly to hit AI fighters-- they must be aimed like heavy rockets. Things that are too big for missiles can be killed with cannons and turrets. If you cannot carry enough cannons and turrets to kill it, then you cannot carry enough torpedoes to kill it either. (Except bulk freighters which get 150 tons of space but 1 turret slot)

      When you are in a small ship like a scout, a torpedo launcher is out of the question. In a corvette/kestrel, the space for a torpedo launcher is better spent on lasers and armor. IMO, only the rebel destroyer and confed cruiser can effectively mount torpedoes. By effectively, I mean 2 launchers +20 or more torpedoes. (The rebel cruiser is undershielded for its class, so I must trade torpedoes for armor there.)

    • I prefer torpedos. sure, they're slower than missiles, but I'm the brute force type. plus, a torpedoes speed is about 650 on the shipyard scale. and missiles are 750. I say torpedoes.

    • I say missles, because while trops cost less, I seem to have to waste more of then to kill something besides a Confed cruiser.
