    • OK, I got the resources and templates installed. But, the resedit beginner's guide doesn't say how to edit stuff. It just tells you how to add new ones. And, for some odd reason, I can't get the ev bible to open. Is there some menu somewhere that I'm missing?

And guess what! The plugin has over 100 new missions, soon new ships, soon new outfits, has new governments, and is almost ready for release! I did this all in two days!

Open the EV Data file in ResEdit, and copy and paste the appropriate resources into your plug, and edit them from there.

Hmm... what program was it created in? My copy is so old and I can't remember where I got it, I don't think it was the addons page, so I don't know. If you just can't open it, EVula has an online version (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/ev_bible/")here(/url), which can't be downloaded, but can be read off the web, and is identical, just with better formatting than my version. 😉

    • 100 missions in 2 days and its bug-free? You're either bluffing or clueless.. probably bluffing. You can not make 100 good missions in 2 days no matter what you used, unless it makes them for you.

Speaking of Delta-V, what ever happened to that? I heard a bunch of the mailing list guys were coming together to make a huge, kickass plugin? It was on the old EV upcoming plugins page... did that idea get dropper or what?

    • Okay, so maybe 200 is a little much, but I did make 20 by myself. And my frieds together made around 20 each. And I have 9 friends (my team) working on this. So, I guess I didn't do it all by myself. I guess I shoulda cleared that up.

And yes, they are good missions. With strings `n everything.

Even 20 missions in 2 days is quite a bit... I've been working on Alien Invaders for weeks, and I've got around 40. There's been some other stuff too, but it sounds like you have other resources as well, and if none is in ResEdit... ouch.

    • OK, everything's working good, except for one thing. When I try to quit I get this notice Invalid triangle do you want to save it this way? And, Invalid decimal word. I say okay and yes until they go away, but it won't let me quit! How do I get these notices to stop? Thanks in advance.

    • What's Ouch supposed to mean? it's really easy to make missions with the utility I'm using. It's called EVOGod. Get it, it's great. And I'm using MisionBits2.0, and EVODeveloper's Map.

"Invalid rectangle" is normal - ignore it. "Invalid decimal word" means you've either entered letters in a field where you're supposed to put numbers, or the number you've entered somewhere is too high.

    • Invalid Rectangle will show up nearly or completely 100% of the time. It means nothing.

I use it because it's easier than ResEdit for missions, and I use resedit for everything else except I once in a while use dev map. Go to the addons page and get shmelta-v. Its a good investment. (because its free) 🙂

Thanks Ares. I'll check into that soon. I find ResEdit able to do anything quite easilly in terms of plugin development, but the missions can get tricky.

Eh, methinks that's a loaded question... up to you.

Space, I don't care how good a utility you're using, that's too fast to write good missions. I spend perhaps a minute, perhaps two coding each mission in ResEdit. You aren't going to improve on that enough to make missions whip out that fast. What takes longer is writing decent descriptions to go with them... also checking out mission bits and stuff to make sure it's configured right, for things like plot branches, negating separate plots, etc.

    • Descriptions are easy. I use things like:
Verses from Psalms (It's a book in the Bibl, look it up someday)
      From Genisis
      From Revelations
      From Proverbs
      From sayings in my head
      From Bush's campaigns
Stuff like that. It's easy, if you have a brain that is. Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you.

Now how the heck did this topic change?

      ------------------
      ----David----
      ----The Beloved----

    • Uhhm. So are your missions... are about quotes from the bible? That doesn't exactly sound like EV to me, and it doesn't sound very exciting. Mission descriptions are not supposed to be "sayings from your head," they are supposed to have dialogue and a plot and characters, etc.

First off, I'll have to agree with ares1, if those are the basis for your descriptions, thats going to be rather boring. I can understand stuff from those sources for mission descriptions somewhat (Revelations especially), but stuff from Bush's campaign (please note he only had one, not two)? And what, exactly, is a Bibl? I've yet to get to that one there in my theological studies. 😉

Also, this topic changed because the original question was asked, and you mentioned your plugin and what programs you were using.

Just for the record, I've used ResEdit for cleaning up my plugins, but for most of my stuff (Escort Carrier, EVula's 3D Targets, and Black Panel), ResEdit was overkill; EV-Edit was what I used to simply replace the target graphics. Hornet, however, was a blend of the two. But then again, I made that back before I had really learned how to use ResEdit to the extent that you can, or read the EV Bible (and put it on my site, which, incidentally, can be found (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/ev_bible")here.(/url)).

Edit: Blast you, UBB code! Blast you I say!
