Agreed. Do you really need anything fancy to wrtie html code? I sure don't.

Skyblade has already said (roughly) how he made it. Letters were done in Infini-D, and the starfield backdrop was made with a Photoshop plugin, the same he used for the BFS II map.

    • I don't need a WYSIWYG, but it is a lot faster and a lot less learning-intensive. Granted, some of these WYSIWYG editors are as hard to learn and use as html itself, it still is great time saver. I used to use raw code, but everytime you wanted to see how it looked you had to save it and open it in a browser. WYSIWYG is just easier and faster. That's the way the winds are blowing these days.

Actually, it's basically that easy with SimpleText too.I have a link to it on the start page which my browser displays, so I can just open the browser, open the site, look at it, and make changes to the code. Then, once I've changed it, Just Save and reload on the browser.

    • Still, you have to do a lot of application switching after every small change. WYSIWYG editors are easier, and that's a fact that cannot really be argued. They are also faster, and I don't think that that can be argued either.

Oh yeah, takes all of a second (if that) to flip up my browser window and click reload. Yeah, that takes a long time.

Please explain what's so hard about writing html code that you need an editor to make it easier.

      See above.

The reason I like GoLive is because it's complex (and hard to use, for that matter)... You can do anything with the program once you learn the ropes.

    • As for how the banner was made (specifically), I first started by creating some text using Infini-D. After applying one of my textures, I added some lighting and a bit of glow. I took a screenshot of the text, imported it into Photoshop 6.0.1, and pasted it into a 400 by 100 pixel window. I then used Flaming Pear's "Gliteratto" plugin to create the starfield, as seen in the background. After that, I then selected the text, and used PhotoTool's "PhotoGlow" feature to make the text more visable (black glow is what I applied). That's about it...

As I've had to tell many other members here at the Ambrosia forums, Infini-D can no longer be purchased (it was worth around 500 to 600 dollars). I happened to find a copy someone was giving away months back. It was my moment of luck... MetaCreations (Infini-D's creator) went backrupt a few years back, thus closing off availbility to purchase the program. You will have a shot at finding it over at ebay, however...

Why are 3D programs expensive? Simple. Companies have to spend years to develop 3D programs, and it is not easy work. You must find experienced programmers with enough talent to create the brainwork of 3D programs. The truth is, 3D programs are amazingly smart, and they wouldn't be without the serious amount of time devoted by the developers.

I personally find Mechanisto hard to use and a waste of time, but if you push yourself hard enough, you can make some excellent graphics. As for Photoshop, it provides you with everything you would ever need for touching up images (or creating them for that matter). If you have Photoshop, you can do anything...

    • Nah, I can't afford that. $20 maybe, but not $600, ebay or no. Oh well.. I'm going to stick to shipyards and hand-outs as far as graphics go for my site. Oh damn! I meant to get a lot of work done today but I didn't do jack. Grrrrrrr.... I have almost no free time anymore.

You won't find a 3D program anywhere for twenty bucks. They are all either free or expensive. However, you can buy some good Photoshop plugins with that kind of money. Refer to my post at your "My Site" topic for more information.

I'll probably be buying Bryce 5 soon, so I can start creating some landing pics...

    • Skyblade- Thanks for suggesting Cinema 4D. I tried it out at a friend's house and ordered it.

Glad to hear my advice was helpful. Cinema 4D has the most user-friendly interface of any advanced 3D program out there, so I've always recommended it. You'll have plenty of fun with it...
