could a corvete take over a kestrel???? I mean so I can use the kestrel 😉
I dont want to do a lot of missions and trade just to get enoguhf money
to buy a kestrel... Is there something special I should do? becasue when I am able to
disable the kestrel then my chance is 5% 😉

    • Only one thing you can do. Disable lots of Kestrels and try to capture them lots of times. Otherwise, go into some pirate territory and have fun disabling them and taking all their money.

    • Actually, if I remember correctly, the crews of your escorts actually count slightly towards capturing an enemy ship. It's not as good as having a high crew of your own, but it might give you an edge. So you could try hiring some ships with large crews to assist you.

If a 'Fed Cruiser can be captured at 1% chances or less, then you can certainly capture a Kestrel with a Corvette.

      Good luck!

    • The big question being, why would you want a kestrel over a Corvette?

    • 'Vette lovers, rise!

Mac and Asriel rise. Does anybody else?

    • Hey, Corvettes are damn cool, don't get me wrong, but the Kestrel is, on paper (or on screen), better. Yes, I have no doubt that a stock Corvette could beat a stock Kestrel, but that depends on the pilot.

Same goes for the Frigate/Destroyer debate. The Destroyers are just so damn fast in comparison to the Frigate, I've rarely seen them lose, unless the Frigate had a Gunboat to back him up.

    • AI vs. AI, the Kestrel would win because of its Lightnings and Proton Turrets. Human vs. Human, even a stock Corvette would beat a stock Kestrel. We humans know to evade the Lightnings. And of course, we know what happens when we upgrade the 'Vette... 🙂

    • In every case I know of, I put speed ahead of size and power. With the exception of the corvette and kestrel...Why I prefer the kestrel of these two ships? I don't know.

Are you forgetting the case of Defender vs. Rebel Destroyer I pointed out a while ago? 😛 😛

    • Thats right! Speed only gets you away from the battle. If you are in battle speed is second to power. No one is saying that speed isn't important it's just flying around at breakship speeds only gets you so far. If you can't engage your oponent in battle your ship is only half good!

    • the best fighter i've ever seen (on foot, that is) was a guy who would run around. he was scary b/c you always had to watch him, no matter where you were on the field. granted, power is a little more important in ship combat than it is in human combat, but speed is still much more dangerous than power (i.e. destroyer vs frigate, reb cruiser vs fed cruiser). i'm definitely much more a corvette person than a kestrel person (of course, my opinion might change if i could offload the lightning bay i don't use and get a buttload of extra space; it's not like the kestrel's a slug)
as to the original question: like people have been saying, just keep trying. early on in my time with ev (like, back before i knew the strengths and weaknesses of all the ships and was still scared when i saw a fed cruiser), i captured a fed cruiser in some little civvie ship (either an argosy or a corvette). of course, with shields down, and not having been smart enough to off the rest of my enemies before departing my functional ship, i was cut down in seconds ("holy crap! i can't even outrun the torpedoes!"), but the point is that any ship which can successfully board a fed cruiser can board a kestrel

I'm not so sure about that. Because of the Fed cruisers slow reaction time it is easyer to beat it than the Krestel, in ships like the Rapier and Corvette. With a quiker reaction time ,meaning that it can also evade and attack faster, the Krestel is alot more dangerous.

      My theory:

To beat a Confed Cruiser you need a combination of good speed and light weapons. For quick attacks.

To beat a Krestel you need a combination of heavy fire power and "so so" speed. For heavy attacks that cause major damage.
