Exactly. Since the Rebellion already has its hands full with the Confederation, I would not even consider flying through independent space, as it could trigger an unwanted war.

~Rebel~, if the Rebellion does want to get on good terms with Levo yet not turn the other northern independent worlds into hostile enemies, the only way we should try is through diplomatic relations and polotics. Using force is out of the question...

    • Would Rebel High Command like to do something about this yet? Maybe a counter-invasion fleet? Skyblade? And does anyone know what Sattomax has in his force? I real need to know...

I do plan to join the rebels officially soon, but I'm not there yet, so if someone could please send a fleet in or tell me what Sattomax has, that would be great. I really can't do anything until then.

    • I agree with that, that declaring war on the Alliance would probably not be a good idea.
Do you know if it would be possible to talk with an Alliance official formally?

      Firefox Light Fighters
      Star Cobra Heavy Fighters

    • Sorry, I'll have to come up with a different plan. Its obvious backup won't arrive in time to help me battle the Confederation fleet so I'm gonna need to fall back. What is the clostest friendly port? I can't risk going back through southern Confederation space the way I came considering my fleet is weak already from my initial strike. I don't think they would make it.

My current fleet consists of the following moderate to heavily damaged ships:

      • R.S.S. Freedom-Flagship (Modified Destroyer)
      • 6 Rebel Destroyers
      • 2 Manta Light Fighters

      Ships lost in intial attack:

      • R.S.S. Independence-Old Flagship (Rebel Cruiser)
      • 3 Rebel Destroyers
      • 2 Manta Light Fighters

How many of each? :frown: This stuff needs to be pretty precise.

You know, on the surface, it would seem the rebels have an advantage here, because of all the extra people we have, but I think that may be our largest weakness (I'm not suggesting everyone else go home). David, going by himself, knows everything he's running and can do whatever, whenever, and doesn't have to wait for anyone else to send him data. Just a couple pennies I probably didn't need to put in the jar, but wanted to anyway. 🙂

Speaking of, since Skyblade seems to be our biggest representative for Rebel High Cmmand at this point, will the Rebels be sending a fleet? If so, it would work best if I could find it in the Yemuro system, when the time comes.

Also, Rebel, I believe you said you retreated to Centauri? If you could hold up there, that'd be great, but I think there's supposed to be a Confed fleet there. If that's true, Sirus is still controlled by the rebels, so you can go there.

Of course. The Alliance of Independent Worlds is anxious to remain in cordial relations with all of its neighbours. That said, they aren't willing to enter into military alliances with the major governments; it is the wish of the Alliance to remain neutral in the Civil War. The Alliance is, however, willing to negotiate trade agreements and other elements of peaceful coexistence with any other willing governments. Alliance officials recognise that the formation of a new major government has inconvenienced the other powers in some ways and are quite willing to reach agreements to offset any bad feeling that has been created.

      ==================

In other words, if at any point you want to enter into negotiations with the Alliance, just say so. Just don't expect them to start fighting for or against either major government.

    • "Although there are still isolated pockets of rebel troops on the planet, I think we can safely count New Britain once again as one of our planets," said Admiral Charles. "Parliament has resumed session, the police are reinstated, and the defence and security systems are back online. We're keeping the attack fleet stationed in the Rigel system for now, though, just in case of rebel retaliation. However, since there's no longer any urgency, Admiral Rollins and his battlegroup have stopped at Landfall for a refit. I understand he's having the tractor beam installed on the remaining Osprey-class vessels so that they're all at the same level of technology."

"Splendid, splendid," replied the Minster for Defence. "I think this operation has gone quite well, don't you? Is there anything else I should know before I make my report to the Senate?"

"There is one other thing," said Admiral Innes. "There were a number of Rebel starships parked at the principal military spaceport undergoing a refit after the battle when the Rebellion captured New Britain. Our engineers are already deconstructing them and going over all the new technology. This is the first incident in some time when we've been able to capture an undamaged Rebel cruiser, and they've added various technologies since the last time. The most interesting thing of all, however, is this." She produced a small black device and set it on the table. "This is a Rebel cloaking device. We've known for some time that the Rebels were ahead of us in cloaking technology, but this is even more than we expected. It looks like the Rebellion has fully functional cloaking technology installed on many of their capital ships."

"But if they have this technology," asked the Minister, "why aren't they using it? Surely this cloaking device would give them an enormous tactical and strategic advantage, allowing them to pass unseen under our very noses. Rather like the submarine warfare of the past, before reliable sensor technology was developed."

"This cloaking device does have one major weakness, Minister," explained Admiral Charles. "Before going into cloak, a rebel vessel must first lower its shields, making it vulnerable to any attack, either intentional or accidental, while it is invisible, and making it all but useless for battle when it becomes visible again."

"However," interjected Admiral Innes, "it appears that by combining the Rebel technology with our own research into cloaking and light physics by the MOD scientists, we may soon be able to overcome even this limitation."

"Minister, I think it would be wise, however, for you not to mention the cloaking device to the Senate at this time," warned Admiral Charles. "Such a powerful technology must remain a military secret until it is ready to be used, or the rebellion may attempt to strike and prevent us from ever developing it."

    • My fleet can't hold up in the Rigel system anymore and my ships sensor readings indicate that the Confederate fleet is on its way. We wouldn't be able to fight another large battle. I've planned my escape to pass through the Centuri system, where I will attempt to maneuver past the Confederate battle fleet that is currently there. I will then jump to the Sirius system, and dock at Sirius station, where my fleet will undergo repairs. I'm making my first now... fleet has officially left the Rigel system....

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting out. The Confederation is more concerned with keeping rebels out than keeping them in.

    • ~Rebel~, no offense, but how exactly do you propose to do something with a fleet of seven ships?

      Macavenger, my fleet contains:
      25 Komodos
      25 Typhoon Carriers
      70 Firefoxes
      30 Star Cobras
      25 Starscreamers

I have previously posted stats for all of these ships; those are still in effect.

      ------------------
Winning is easy; losing is an art.

    • Well, I'm not exactly the highest of officials in the Rebellion. I plan on getting more ships for my fleet as soon as Rebel Command approves of it. My fleet was primarily used before for special ops mostly: Commando insertion, Search and Rescue, Recon, Sabatoge, etc. All my ships are fitted to the specs of the R.S.S. Freedom.
      Extras:

      • 1 fuel tank
      • 2 missile launchers/ 49 missiles
      • 1 torpedo launcher/ 40 torpedos
      • Armaplast armor
      • Engine upgrade
      • Thrust upgrade
      • RCS upgrade
      • 4 shield enhancers
      • 1 shield booster
      • 4 proton turrets
      • missile jammer
      • IFF/Density scanners
      • cloaking device
      • tractor beam
Thats probably why Rebel High Command has a problem with giving me a massive fleet, but I could serve as useful backup or recon to one of your fleets. I'm expected to recieve a new shipment of 15 of those modified destroyers and I'm ditching the 2 mantas. I'll have a fleet of 20 of these modified destroyers and will be ready and willing to help any one of your fleets. They are already in route to Sirius Station where I will rendezous with them.

      ------------------

    • Bring them back to Rigel.

Macavenger's fleet leaves Armstrong with Sattomax's X-Fleet in tow. The entire fleet was under Macavenger's Command, as Commander Vaten was too hungover to command a fleet.

The fleets jumped through Vulcan, then Spica, impressing 2 Rebel Cruisers that were in the system to the combined fleet. Then through Kathoon and Yemuro. Next was Matar, where intelligence had reported a massed Confederate fleet attempting to block access to Rigel. To get passed this, Macavenger employed a trick he had learned as a weak independent trader in his early days to avoid pirates. With the course to Rigel already laid in, the fleet ~immediately~ engaged hyperdrives once aarriving in the Matar system, jumping out to Rigel before the Confederate defenders could hit them with more than token fire.
(Sorry about the one post element to this part David, but we're in the system for maybe 10 seconds real time, so there's not much you can do.)

Upon arriving in the Rigel System, Macavenger pulled a quick scan of Confederate ships in the system, then...
(edit) And oh yeah, we start launching fighters now regardless of what happens with the sensor sweep. (/edit)

OK David, now that I'm here scanning, I need exact data on what's in the system, particularly if there are any Ospreys present or not, that would have a major impact on what I'm going to do. Also, the Rebels still have the element of surprise, that scan would take less than a second, so just let me know what's here first and then we can take turns issuing orders.

    • Rebel's new and repaired fleet of 20 enhanced destroyers quickly made their way back to the Rigel system passing through Centuri. All 20 ships cloaked as they entered the system, making there presence completely unknown to the Confederate ships. Rebel's fleet, still cloaked, pulls in to formation near Macavengers's fleet and sends an incrypted subspace message to Macavenger's flagship: "Rebel here... we help as much as possible... my ships are cloaked off your starboard... my ship is carrying commandos and troops that are ready for insertion on your order... Rebel out."

      ------------------

    • Nice, my ships have cloaks too, but aren't using them right now. Now we just have to wait for David to get back with the results of my sensor sweep. Remember you can't fire when cloaked in EV.

      ------------------
So go on the internet game sites and bash all the PC users!

    • I will wait until you fire first before I join this fight. I fyou think you can handle the ships that are in the system, my ships can begin orbital bombardment of military bases and structures on the surface as well as sending in the troops and land assault teams.

Just curious, what plug are Komodos and Star Cobras and all those ships in Sattomax's fleet from?

      ------------------

    • I don't think orbital bombardment is the answer. You could enter the atmosphere to support troops, but we're trying to take the planet back, not raze it. And I think Sattomax's ships were created specially for this story, I don't believe they're in a plug, though I could be wrong.

      ------------------
So go on the internet game sites and bash all the PC users!

    • They have Confederate troops on the planet that are holding it right now. The only thing I was thinking about bombing was their military instalations. This would reduce the amount of casualties of our troops when they land on the surface as well as stopping the Confederates from sending planetary reinforcments against your fleet.

      ------------------

    • 'In the news tonight, the Alliance of Independent Worlds announced today that the Alliance Monitoring Station on New Istanbul is now fully operational. In addition, the entire Alliance will be following Levo's example and barring all foreign warships from entering their territory beginning next week. An Alliance spokeswoman said that the independent worlds will be glad to enter talks with the major powers to sort out any inconveniences that may result from this change of policy.'

'She also reported that the Alliance has freed the captain of the Loadstar and allowed him and his ship to leave the Levo system with a warning. Alliance officials will now concentrate their efforts on finding the sender and recipient of the military-grade weaponry that was found in the Loadstar 's cargo hold.'

It's a fairly typically equipped Confederate fleet - 30 cruisers (remember, these have particle beams now), 70 frigates, and a large number of patrol ships and gunboats (you can't get a precise number on these because some of them are docked inside the cruisers). There are no Ospreys as of yet. If you look at the Confederate briefing above, Admiral Rollins made a brief stop at Landfall to equip all the Ospreys with tractor beams. They'll show up when the time is right.

I wouldn't try that if I were you. Most of the Confederate troops on the planet are currently fighting the remaining small pockets of Rebel troops. As for shipyards, very few of the Confederate ships have landed, so you'd mostly be destroying leftover Rebel technology.
