Well, right now the Rebels area ttacking all over the Confederation, all but a few of it's systems, with large task forces. My group is actively engaged in slaughtering a couple of Confed fleets in the Centauri system. Captain Skyblade has about 700 capital ships in the Eridani system, waiting for David to tell him what the defences are. We lost New Britain but then I captured Hogdson's world, and Northstar left the Confederation, so I guess you could say that we're winning. It's hard to say for sure until we find out what David will do next.

    • The five year project had finally been completed. Insano, former admiral in the confederation navy, had finally completed his fleet. Five years ago, Insano was to be terminated for treason. On the Confed cruiser that he was to be terminated on, the crew had suddenly become Rebel sympathetic with Insano. The crew quickly overpowered the remaining Cofed loyals on the ship and Confederation Cruiser 1158 became the Insano Star. In the five years between that event and now, the Insano Star had been capturing pirate ships, docking them in an uninhabited system. All ships had been upgraded with the latest technology. The number of Kestrels was approaching 250, each with their full complement of lightnings. The number of Corvettes, Argosys, Rapiers, and Lightnings was near innumerable. All ships had been docked and were ready to be launched, fully manned, and more than fully armed. "Today," Insano said. "Is our first mission." "Macavenger's Rebel fleet is attacking the Centauri system. Now, we will go and assist him. Everyone, to your ships!" And with that the Captura fleet entered hyperspace for the centauri system. When Macavenger first saw the fleet he thought it was confederate, as a confederate cruiser was at the lead. Just as he was about to retreat he recieved a hail. "Macavenger, this is Admiral Insano of the Captura fleet, we are here to assist you."

    • Insano, didn't I tell you not to bring that fleet into this? We're going to have to void that post, because you obviously haven't read the whole thing yet. There are political forces you don't understand yet at work, and moving a fleet around the galaxy has become problematic enough that to get to many systems you have to detail how you did it. If you insist on joining us, you really need to read the whole thread first, so you can understand what's going on, otherwise you'll probably create more problems for the Rebellion than you fix.
And BTW, my fleet would never run from a measly assortment of Kestrels and Lightnings. We're equipped with the cutting edge of Rebel technology, which is currently at the top of galactic technology.

    • 4 points Macavenger.

      1. How can you assume I haven't read the entire thread? I haven't, but you still shouldn't assume.

      2. You think I have no contact with the Rebels? I've been getting shipments from a few trusted friends for a long time now.

      3. Hmm, how would I move them? Do you know which planet I've been hiding them on? For all you know it could be a rock in the Centauri system.

      4. I just realized why I'm going to drop this in the first place. I don't think David Arthur will post again for a loooong time. And, how do you guys ever decide who wins a battle? Oh, yeah, another fleet of mine just came in. How do you get by that? That's the problem I've always had with things like this. Too easy to lie and make stuff up. Now, I'm going to hide in a corner until all of you go away.

      --- --- ---

Ex-General Alan Rak of the Atinoda Special Services strode confidently into the docking bay. All was going well. Soon, he will have created one of the most lethal fighting ships in existence. As he keyed up the overhead videophone, the face of the VP of Special Services Alex Hacker popped up. "Yes?" he asked Alan. "I have news to report of operation RPT." Alan Replied. "Go Ahead." " We have made much progress, using the latest class III osprey off the assembly line as a base, nothing even comes close to matching its performance. The ship has retrofitted C3 centers, fully utilizing quantum computing technology and new mathematical formulas for efficiency management. A super conducting form of liquid hydrogen is used as a shield recharge vector, and it allows the recharge rate to reach the incredible velocity of 100. The shielding is stated at 600, but it can theoretically reach 700. The hull is built using an extremely dense tritanium diamond alloy, and is evaluated at 400. A unique feature of this ship is its ability to resist damage. It cannot be disabled, only destroyed when 500 armor is used up." Rak Paused.

"Is that all?" asked VP Hacker. "No, there is a lot more. Using an extremely advanced and powerful array of computers, software, and engines, we have been able to make this ship maneuver like a corvette. The ten main engines and the one hundred thrusters are strategically placed along the ships hull to provide ease use of complex maneuvers. It also allows for amazing evasive maneuvering."

"Wow," he said, Β“and what will these ships be used for?" "Well, there are two versions: RPT-1A and RPT-1B."

"Version A is the primary version. It is used for anti-fighter work. Because the rebels are so heavily invested in their fighter technology, it is a very deadly killer. Version B is used to supply dead supporting fire against the capital ships. Its shields are strengthened, however maneuverability is decreased to the level of our Kestrel."

"We have designed quite a few new weapons for this ship. They are as follows-

The flak turret is a turret that fires thousands of small pieces of metal shrapnel per second at the general area. The force of the blow will knock back many fighters while draining their shields. Armor won't last even a second, and combined with the plasma charge turret, this can easily destroy numerous fighters. It weighs 30 tons.

The plasma charge turret fires an electrical plasma charge, which wipes outs 75 shields per blast. However, it can only fire 2 rounds per second, and can only target 1 fighter at a time. Each one weighs 12 tons, due to the lack of necessary firing mechanisms.

The whacker missile is an extremely fast and long-range missile, immune to jamming because its sensor suite is slaved through its firing body. It wipes out 10 shields, and weighs 1 ton. The launcher weighs 15 tons.

"The A variant is equipped the following way- 1 whacker missile launcher, 50 whacker missiles, 2 plasma charge turrets, 2 flak turrets, 2 lightning fighter bombers, 1 missile jammer, 2 javelin launchers, 500 javelins."

"The B variant is equipped the following way- 2 torpedo launchers, 100 torpedoes, 2 proton turrets, 1 missile jammer."

"The ship will be operational with-in the day. Alan Fak out."
      --- --- ---
Okay, these ships will be produced at a secret underground base on the supposedly destroyed ruby. David and the confederation don't know about these, as they are being built at the expense of the Atinoda Corporation. Remember these ships out range and slaughter fighters.

Also, since you don't know about these Macavenger, I can bring them out and through your backside at any time.

    • Add-on to other post- I have read the entire thread, every single post.

    • Lewis Riker, Secretary for the Rebel Navy Defense, approaced president Navarone with a recent update on ship numbers.

Riker, after handing the papers to the president, spoke. "It seems as though our capital ship numbers has steadied because of losses as Eridani and Centauri, but our fighter numbers or increasing drastically. According to yesterday's report, Admiral Skyblade reported that 28,364 fighters were in service with the Rebellion Navy."

President Navarone's eyes widened at the number. "Roughly 28,000?" the president spoke," that's an improvement, especially considering our last report stated we had 23,000 light to heavy military fighters in service."

"Correct sir," Riker continued. "But this is causing a problem. Due to our large numbers of fighters, we don't have enough cruisers to carry the "manta" and "star cobra" class medium fighter. We have some 7,000 mantas and smaller numbers of star cobras that have yet to be housed."

"Is that so," the president said as he glanced at his desk. "What are you recommending, Riker, and what do you have in mind?"

"well sir, it could be as simple as converting our fighter production for use to manufacture our warships. But the officials of the Rebel Arms Corporation have a better idea."

President Navarone didn't have to wait long to see what Riker meant. "I see. Your giving plans for a large carrier of some type to hold large numbers of fighters and interceptors."

Riker, glad that Navarone had caught on, continued. "That's right. RAC already has the designs and blueprints at hand, and after a good deal of extensive testing, I believe we might have a formidable warship on our hands ready for production."

The president leaned back in his chair, once again glancing at the report paper. "So our capital ship numbers are at 4,782, most of them destroyers?"

      Yes sir," Riker responded.

"How many of those are cruisers?"

"Roughly 1200 of our capital ship numbers are cruisers of different classes, all fully-stocked with fighters."

Jonathan Navarone thought for a moment, then continued. "Very well. Tell the CEO of ROC that I'd like to have a meeting with him as soon as possible. Under the circumstances, the Rebel Navy needs a large- very large carrier."

Lewis Riker saluted and began to walk out of the president's office. "By the way, sir, intellegence reports that their has been some considerable freight traffic around the southern portion of the galaxy escorted by fleets of Confederation warships. We don't know why the Confederation has suddenly become active in this portion of the galaxy, but intellegence might have more answers next time I see you."

    • So, what are we doing now about Centauri and Eridani/ Assuming the Rebels won? I know the Confederation had no chance at Centauri, but I'm not so sure about Eridani.

1- Because the Confederation does not know about this venture of Atinoda, they won't provide escort. More likely, it will be independant merchants along with Kestrels.

2- How did you find out so fast? Currently, the resources used to build these ships is comming from built up stockpiles and asteriod mining from the trugati belt.

3- You already do have a carrier, the escort carrier πŸ˜‰
      --- --- ---
Rak tapped on his videophone connection, the face of the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy came up. "What do you want?" The mercenary snarled. Rak replied calmly, "I want to hire you for some escort work, I will pay 100K credits per day." The bounty hunter agreed. "Meet me at Liberty Station, I will be in a lone kestrel." Rak told him. Just as he was about to leave Rak watched in fright as he realized rebel spies heard his entire conversation. Fortunately, it was intercepted from a routing point on New Japan.

Rak also dialed up the commanding Admiral of the 2nd War Fleet on an ultra secure connection, which the rebels COULD NOT penetrate. It contained 50 Class 3 cruisers, 20 class 3 ospreys, and 100 class 2 frigates. It was a specialty wing, and contained 50 top secret modified kestrels, each containing 4 rapiers and 40 topedoes. But they each only had 3 proton turrets. "Hello James" Rak stated. "What do you want me to do, mate?" "I have recieved intelligence a rebel warfleet will jump into liberty station in a few days. I want you to catch them off guard and destroy the entire fleet. Then land on Liberty Station.

Skyblade, Macavenger, you both don't know about the second call. Only the first. And because in your previous message, you were concerned about me, Skyblade, I really think you will dispatch a fleet to investigate.

Those are not my battles, but I may reinforce the ships at Eridani. This of course depends on how Skyblade reacts to the moves of the Bounty Hunters. Centauri is gone, but I don't know what David will do about Eridani

Let's just say that Eridani and Centauri were Rebel victories, and go ahead with your plan to invade Rigel.

As for the course of this story, I just thought up something really good that would last a good 200 / 300 posts. Just let me give it a start and it will shape up as we go.

General Rak- How did we find out about your little project? Because the Rebellion has patrols and warfleets completely surrounding the core worlds, so discovering activity around the asteroid belt and Ruby wouldn't be hard.

And when I say a new Rebel Carrier, I mean a ~big~ Rebel Carrier. Not just a small escort carrier. I'm currently designing a graphic for it.

    • General Rak, about your new technology:

      Quote

I've got a problem with the italicized part of that. That's just insane, reconsider. Weapons powerful enough to take out a Rebel Destroyer in 3 or 4 shots are just crazy. The rest of your technology looks fine, but I don't know why you think it will help. πŸ™‚
I would perfer if, at this point, we could avoid much more in the way of new inventions, since I'm doing a plug of all of them. Note, General Rak, this means I'm going to need graphics for all this stuff from you.

Also, I don't see much reason for Skyblade to investigate an obvious lead like that, you haven't done anything yet. This recommendation is being passed on to Admiral Skyblade.
Skyblade, if you do decide to go, take your 4 Supercruisers in your fleet, along with other stuff, it's too obvious. They should be able to handle pretty much anything.

      ============

The Rebel feints around the Confederation were going quite well. While not inflicting much damage, they weren't taking any significant losses either, and were confusing the Confederation Navy rather seriously. It didn't have enough ships to respond in force everywhere, and if it did somewhere, the Rebels would jump to a nearby system. Eventually, most of them wound up in the Tau Ceti system, which wasn't as heavily defended as most, and began a massed naval warfare with the 3 Confederate fleets that had followed them there. When some backup units from Skyblade's fleet at Eridani arrived, the tide began to turn in the Rebel's favor. Meanwhile, Tabletop and Landfall were now in Rebel hands.

At this point, Macavenger took the remaining units of his fleet into Rigel, where Commodore Vaten's fleet was fighting with a Confederate fleet that had been left there for defense, along with some Drones.

"Firefoxes out!" Macavenger called. "Pick up those drones. Supercruisers, go in. Looks like the rest of the fleet won' be needed here, retuen to Centauri. Try to convert it's shipyards and Upgrade the F Class Cruisers to Supercruisers if possible."

The Supercruisers came in at the Confederate fleet. The battle to this point had been largely a stalemate, because while the Rebel ships were newer and better equipped, the Confederate ships were a lot tougher to kill. But that had just changed. The Confeds didn't know it yet, but with the arrival of the Supcruisers, the battle was over.

A screen of 10 Frigates with a fairly large group of Gunboats was diverted to meet the threat. One of the Rebel shiops, the R.S.S. Annihilator , went straight past, ignoring them. Meanwhile, the other five engaged, and took about 12 seconds to move through the Confederate ships. Meanwhile, the R.S.S. Annihilator was attracting attention by going straight through, so 4 cruisers turned to attack it together, then deal with the others behind it when they caught up. Until then, it would be four against one, which quickly proved a gross mismatch, in favor of the Annihilator. Not only did it represent the latest in Rebel technology, it had Admiral Macavenger at the helm, who was pushing at Admiral Skyblade for the title of best tactician in the Rebellion.

With the arrival of all the Supercruisers at the main fleet, the rest of the battle was over within 2 minutes, and the populace of New Britain welcomed back the Rebel troops - at least, some of it did.

      ============

Mr. Navarone called the headman of the local shipyards to his office. "How are the refits going?" he asked.

"Very good, sir. We've got 20 of 60 cruisers in the fleet here converted to Supercruisers, and the rest should be done inside a week. After that, we'll start upgrading the Destroyers here to Assault Carriers. That'll give us space to house another 960 extra fighters. Those refits are also easier, so we hope to have them all done in two to three weeks from now."

Navarone called Apollo, and got a very similar report about it's sector fleet. Sirgil Starport, Sentinel Station, and Port Oread had nearly finished upgrading their ships which hadn't been called away on feints. There was no progress with the Sector fleet at Atropos, as there were no facilities to do the work there.

Another top secret Rebel Project was rapidly approaching completion, and in fact was going to be unveiled on ISN later that night. Navarone checked in with the project foreman on Cappela. Yes, it would be done in time.

He called Macavenger. "I want you to take your fleet to Armstrong. The feinting fleets are being distributed to the new territories, Matar is picking up the slack, and we're turning out new ships in the area. You won't be needed there. The Confederation is crumbling, so our next task should be to move agains the pirates. As such, I want you at Armstrong, we're in easy striking distance of two of their bases there."

"Yes sir. Is the new system on-line?"

"It will be in two hours. You can wait until then, and use it."

      ============

"This is ISN, the Inerstellar News Network. The Rebels today announced that they've been able to create some new hyperspace bypasses, linking the systems Capella and Rigel, Nemesis and Apollo, and Capella with Vulcan. This new network is designed to partially circumvent the edict of the Alliance of Independent worlds, which will not allow Rebel ships into it's systems."

    • Lewis Riker ran down the hall of the Rebel headquarters, holding some papers in his hands. By the time he reached Jonathan Navarone's office, he was gasping for breath. As he burst through the door, he quickly announced, "Mr. President, I have some very bad news!"

President Navarone, who had been doing some research at his desk, looked at Riker with surprise.

When Riker suddenly realized how shocked the president looked, he calmed himself enough to let his words out. "Sir, before long, the entire galaxy could be at risk."

The president quickly responded. "Well, what do you mean? Let's see what you have in your hands...You've got me worried."

Riker ran to the presidents desk and slapped the papers on the desk. The first paper contained a photograph, and one glance at it put the president into a state of shock.

      Posted Image

"It's the aliens, sir. They are not extinct like we once believed," Riker quiety said.

The president shook himself from his temporary shock with sweat poring down his face, while he continued to look at the photo.

Riker again spoke. "This is a photograph taken from one of our manta recon fighters. The craft was on patrol in the outer sections of the Serapis Nebula when it spotted a warship never seen before. When the manta approached the warship, weapons, which seam to be heavy fusion beams on turret mounts, fired on it. Two of those beams can be seen in the photo. If it weren't for the speed of the manta, it wouldn't have made it back."

The president was still speachless, staring at the photograph. He finally managed to say a few words. "Any other information?"

Riker wondered if he should continue, but decided to answer the president's question. "Yes sir. The warship is 2400 meters long: over six times longer then our cruiser. The recon pilot also reported roughly twenty to thirty alien fighters persuing him. Again, the manta's speed saved the pilot's life. The truth is sir, we might have destroyed the 16 known alien cruisers during the Great War, but we never found out where the aliens came from. We believe a gateway to another galaxy lies behind the Serapis Nebula, and the aliens have again crossed that gateway. We have given the warship in the photograph the name "battlecruiser."

President Navarone, who was still in a state of surprise, suddenly knocked himself out of his stupor. "Contact Admiral Skyblade at once, and tell him to come to Pashlife as soon as possible. Give Macavenger complete control over the current offensives against the Confederation worlds, no questions asked. Now move!"

As Riker walked swiftly for the door, he realized that he had never seen the president so worried. Certain doom seemed to be in the air, and terror could soon rip itself across the galaxy.

Alright, this is the intro to my little idea. I'll continue it when I get the time, but meanwhile, everyone continue the Rebellion / Confederation attacks and defences as well as any other active subject at the moment. Just leave this alien thing up to me for now.

    • Nice art Skyblade. Brining the aliens in is going to be ugly. As it happens, my last post pretty well called off action on the Confederacy for the moment, I assume it wasn't up while you were composing yours. My fleet is now at Apollo, and we have a sizeable, nearly all new fleet ther already. If your aliens try something, we should be able to get them.

Yeap, this will eventually turn ugly alright. But I don't plan on actually bringing the aliens into any major battle engagement for some time. I need to go into the polotics for awhile before doing so. Just give me some time, and it will all make sense.

No, your post wasn't up when I made mine, so some of my information may now be obsolete. πŸ™‚ Anyway, you're in full control of the offensive, and half my fleet is now in your hands. The other half has gone with me to Pashlife.

    • Before jumping out to Armstrong, Macavenger learns of the new changes in the power structure, and punches out some orders before leaving.

"Ok, I want the rest of Skyblade's fleet to stay on defensive patrols for now. Make minor raids as appropriate, if you get an opportunity to attack Sol, go for it. I'm going to be taking my fleet out too, to go hunting for pirates and now aliens too. So, i think I'm going to go a bit further and, for now, give Commodore Vaten a field promotion to Admiral (2 star), and leave the fleets here to him. Again, Offense at your discretion, Admiral Vaten, your prime concern is to hold the territory. The remainder of Admiral Skyblade's fleet which does not stay to defend Tabletop can come back to the main planets through Capella and the new hyperspace bypasses. I'll let you split that up, Commodore Roberts. Good hunting."

With that, Macavenger hurled his fleet off to Apollo, through the new bypasses.

BTW, I'm figuring the admiralty structure as Skyblade being a (probably the) 5 star and me a 4 star.

    • Despite their tech, wont this be unfair if the aliens have no representatives?

If its not forced, ill do it!

    • Ick. This is getting far too convoluted for my taste.

    • "Admiral, as you've probably already heard, our old friends are back," president Navarone announced.

"Yes," Skyblade replied, "Lewis Riker informed me upon arriving at Pashlife. I here we have a new warship of some type in the Serapis Nebula."

Navarone continued. "That's correct. Not only that, but this new warship is the largest ever seen in the galaxy. It dwarfs even our Supercruisers, which is just another reason for us to continue work on the new Rebel Carrier." While speaking, the president handed the alien warship photo to Skyblade.

The president gave the Admiral a few seconds to look over the photo before continuing. "Although the aliens have yet to pose a serious threat in the eastern sectors of the galaxy, that could change, and soon. However, your first assignment will not be that of warfare."

Admiral Skyblade looked at the president with wonder in his eyes. "Oh?"

"We need to contact the Confederation about this matter. Don't get me wrong, but it's the right thing to do."

Skyblade immediately retalliated. "We needn't contact them of the matter. We already have enough on our hands fighting the Confederation, and should the know the Rebellion now has two foes instead of one, their hopes for victory could increase dramatically."

"Good point Admiral," Navarone responded, "but you have to look beyond the current situation. We know for certain that the Rebellion would quickly crumble if we fought the aliens alone. This is not only a dangerous matter for the Rebellion, but for the entire galaxy! We would be the first to be annihilated, and then the Confederation would be wiped out as well. Think about it...All of mankind is at risk. It's time we go to the Confederation with the matter."

Admiral Skyblade stood still for a moment, thinking of the matter. "What do you want me to do, Mr. President?"

"I want to send you to the Confederation senate as my personal representative. We must announce the matter to them, and their decision is extremely important. The decision they make could range from surrendering to the Rebellion to calling a temporary truce to fight the aliens in a joint effort. The truth is, both sides know they can't do it alone. When we fought the aliens years back, we did it together, and we must do that again if we plan to survive."

Skyblade could now see the president's point quite clearly. It all made sense now.

President Navarone paced around his desk, running through his thoughts. "I want you and about ten other government officials to make way for earth as soon as possible. Take the entire 212th Navial Division with you, but be sure to avoid the red alert sequence. If you set your military status to "white," the Confederation should realize that it's a peace matter and avoid firing on your fleet. That is all"

Skyblade saluted to the president and walked out of the office. The future of the galaxy was not only going to be busy, but deadly for both the Rebellion and Confederation.

Mac, let's say that you and your fleet doesn't know anything about the aliens yet. I plan on telling you personally a little further on into the story, so continue the offensive as you normally would.
