Here are my tactics and my ship set-up:
When I play strait-up EV, I currently fly a kestrel with the standard upgrades (IFF, 'burner, ramscoop, fuel, etc.), the 3 M/C/A upgrades available on Palshife, three proton turrets, and, depending on my mood, two torpedo launchers & ammo, two missile racks & ammo, the shield regen/strength upgrades and durasteel/tritanium, or some combination of the above three, excepting that I usually do not carry both missiles and torpedoes. In the past, my lightnings would sit in my bays ad infinitum, but recently I have taken to using them to kill fighters, especially in my shiny new guard kestrel in Pale . When fighting fighters I usually single out one and make passes through the group until they're all dead or I just sit in space tapping r and holding the space button, depending on whether or not they're weak enough for me to slaughter easily. Against capitol ships I tend to use slightly more intelligent tactics. When fighting a smaller capitol ship with a faster shield regeneration speed, I tend to go in guns blazing and attempt to circle away from rocket launchers or neutron guns, which tend to scratch my pretty little paint job , and hope that they die first. Against groups of smaller ships, I try to single one out and use the above tactics, though I try to let my shields recharge a bit between fights. When fighting larger, more heavily armed ships with slower shield recharge rates, I have recently begun using a version of the spearhead (was it Silver Dragon that coined that phrase?), wherein I stick around in my spearhead until I think I have sustained enough damage, then I hit the afterburner and flee until I think I am healed enough to try another pass. If I have secondaries (versus large or small capitol ships), I tend to fire them after I've turned around for another pass, so they don't fly off into oblivion, or while I'm waiting for my shields to recharge. If a large capitol ship has low enough shields or is into armor, I might also use my lightnings for the last pass, as I have finally noticed the insane amounts of damage they can deal if they're not killed.
Phew! What a long post. Anyways,

Yes, that is the Monty Python. I haven't been able to get a great explanation from my friends knowledgeable about Monty Python, but I'm told it has something to do with a deadly rabbit and something called the "Holy Grenade of Antioch" or something like that, and running away, I think from said rabbit.

You're welcome, and nothing my friends haven't suggested too. That could be a problem for now, since I'm 16, but maybe when I make it to college.

I "monty python" little ecsourts (fighters) and dog it out with the mother ships. All depending on my ship! When I'm in a small ship (clipper or argosy) I sabotage and board the non-gov ship by attacking them during the "hypespace jump preporation time"(they just sit there, so tempting!)

Monty Pythoning is incredibly cheap and makes the game boring. That's why I haven't played the game in about a year. I would always revert to the Monty Python, even if I was trying to do a game where I didn't use it to make it more realistic and difficult.
To me, using strict play or adding more enemy ships merely makes the game more frustrating, not much more difficult - I've found that, over the years, I can beat just about any group of ships, no matter how large, well armed, well shielded, or fast they are, with just about any nice tricked out ship. If I try enough times, I could probably beat anything, even the defense fleet at Sol. I just don't want to spend the time.
I've held off playing any until Nova is released because I'm looking for a different challenge - not a huge endurance run where a single ship takes out a dozen or more ships of superior weaponry but inferior intelligence, but where you must have an excellent ship, good upgrades, and good tactical knowledge in order to defeat a vessel of similar capabilities as your own. The AI must be better. EV's is so simple and poor that it's no fun. I got the game X-wing (also a very old game) a year or two after getting EV, and I was impressed with the AI. Now, it's lame, predictable, and I end up killing about 20 TIE fighters by myself, with no help from wingmen. Then, less than a year ago, I got the excellent third person action game Oni. It has a similar setup to Tomb Raider but the game itself is far superior. The graphics are fluid, lifelike, and complex. The AI is unpredictable and powerful. Each opponent poses a new challenge. Sometimes, the battles involving multiple enemies clustering around poor Konoko (you) are a bit slanted in Konoko's favor (I usually end up killing everyone, eventually), and yes, you can get hit many times with bullets before you die, but it has such great AI and huge complex levels that I always have fun playing.
I hope EV Nova at least approaches the level of AI development that other games have shown recently. Of course, I don't expect it to be nearly as difficult as another human player, but it will hopefully be much harder to beat. If we could play multiplayer, that would make everyone think twice about monty pythoning everything to death. I think that most people would end up flying circles around each other for battles. It would be very healthy for the EV community, as it would prompt discussions on tactical maneuvers.
BTW, I haven't played EV or visited this web board in about a year, so could anyone fill me in on any big developments, like huge plugins or updates to current plugs or anything? Anything new with EVO? Thanks.

I agree with you! The EV Als are very slow wited and it would be great for them to be
a little smarter.

(flame on) You Murderous Traitor! How could you say stuff like that about EV! (Flame off) I'd call you a weaseal at heart, If ye had a heart, and if it wasn't an insult to respectable weasles eveeywhere! Ok, so EV could use some new AI. But still! How could you, Luca!
