    • EV with 15" Display

I bought a 450 Cube with the 15" Apple flat panel display a month ago. Now everything is smaller on the screen, with the missiles and other small objects barely visible. I've tried different resolutions or the display's brightness control, but I guess my main complaint is the size of the objects themselves. The game itself uses about 3/4 of the screen, with the rest being used by EV's shield/armor status display. On my old Performa, the entire screen was filled and all objects were a good size. I do know that the flat panel is larger than the Performa's so-called "15" monitor" (actually 13.2"). Anyone with the same problem? Any suggestions?

    • I have a 15" Studio Display, and haven't had any problems at all, not totally sure what you mean there. if you have a screenshot you could post or something to show what your problem is, that might help.

    • I run EV on my PC using executor, and i have a 17" moniter, it fills the screen fine, and the objects are the right size

Hmm. I used to play on a 21" SGI at 1280x1024. Things were smaller which was ok. The standard gamma for this monitor was too dark for EV. I had to set the gamma to something rediculus in order to see anything. If you are using OS 8.6 or better, play with the control panel "Monitors and Sound"->Color->Calibrate. With the "right" setting, you can make anything visible.

    • Heck, you guys are lucky I play on an old apple 15' thing that has a defect in it so the dang thing is always green.I don't even know what color any of the planets or ships are.

Now that problem I know something about, my grandparents had that happen a few years back. It's caused by a connection that goes bad in the monitor over time, and when it quits, as yours has, the red gun stops working, which makes evrything look greener than it should, because the monitor can no longer display any red. That type of monitor was notorious for doing that. Apple extended the warranty on those things because of that, but I don't know when that was good until. If it's still under the extended warranty, Apple should replace it. In any case, it's shot and you need a new one.

The worst part of this is that the Rebel ships look all green-blue... ugh... Can you guys imagine that? It'd be horrible. I feel sorry for you, firestorm...

I first played EV on a Centris 650 with a 14" monitor at 640x480. And when EVO came out, I played it on my Quadra 700, with a 14" HP (PC) monitor.

    • i got a 17" moniter set on 800x600 (i had a 15" before it died set on the same thing), and while i don't use all the screen (the side panel ends 2/3 of the way down the side), nothings really too small. what resolution size are you using?

      ------------------
      thanks for the apathy

    • I used to have the same problem with the macs we used at school; the old 15" and 17" multiscans would all be either green or purple. I usually found that they could be temporarily fixed by moving around the connector to the monitor, then hitting the screen a few times while using some mildly abusive words. Never lasted though, and about 20 minutes later I'd have to go through the same thing again.
Why don't you go and try picking up another old mac monitor... they're cheap if you have an old type because the latest macs use standard VGA connectors for standard PC monitors, or the new digital connectors for the latest large flatscreens.

I often found that helps, but after 3 years of green you get used to it. And there aint nothin wrong with playin on your quadra mikee 🙂

I like my computer inside my moniter. Anyway, let's not start fighting about computers again... 🙂

Heh, at least my monitor doesn't take up so much space, it's about 2 or 3 inches thick... 🙂

I don't think our 533 MHz towers are exactly something to brag about anymore, (url="http://"http://www.apple.com/powermac/")are they?(/url)

Yeah, I know, but they were two days ago. Such is modern technology.

That happened to me when I switched my resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768, but I could still see things pretty well. I would suggest switching to a much smaller resolution, say 640x480. Also, see if there's a control on your monitor to shrink the amount of blackness that surrounds the edge of the visible screen to as small as you can make it.

That's the best I can come up with unless you post more info.
