    • First off, nice name Demesothenes.
I have to go with torps as well. I agree with your reasons Rawzer. Primary fire power is just the way to go, and if you can't get close enough, you need to have the power from the torps to weaken or destroy better capital ships. Missles are too average in anything. They don't give enough punch to be used on capitals. Yet they don't have the range to make using them against fighters efficient. Its hard to find a good use for missles.

Torps starting to build a bit of a lead here.

All you primary-weapons-are-the-only-way-to-go people may have to rework your thinking a little when Nova comes out, from the sounds of it. Frandall says projectiles play a much larger role. Course, I don't use secondaries either if I don't have to, butI'm not afraid to use them up.

Yeah, maybe, but this is a topic about the original game, remember? I'll rework my thinking when I know what to rework it to. 🙂

Thanks, this is just my new screen name. Old one was The Catacomb.

So torpedoes pulled ahead, eh? 😉

    • Yes, I expected originally that they would, even though I voted for Missiles.

I actually found this rather surprising, though...If I remember correctly, I believe missiles won the last "Missiles or Torpedoes" poll.

    • That surprises me, because most of the opinions I've seen on this are heavily in favor of torpedoes.

That's odd, because for years, I've considered the guided missile to be the favorite secondary of Escape Velocity, because they normally seemed to take the lead in polls...

    • This is pretty funny. You voted for torpedoes, and think Missiles are more popular, and I voted for missiles, but think torpedoes are more popular. The irony here could be sliced with a knife. 🙂

Hehe...I'll say. That is somewhat odd...

    • I think that both missiles and torpedoes have their strong and weak points. Missiles are fast and relatively easy to carry and can hit both fighters and warships with relative ease. However, they are not very powerful and have a limited range. Torpedoes, on the other hand, have a long range and are packed with power. An excellent anti-capitol ship weapon. However, they are slow and thus not good for fighters, plus the launcher is quite large. I personally favor torpedoes.

Those are some good reasons. Lately, I've fitted my Rebel Destroyer with twenty missiles for use against fighters, and one hundred torpedoes for use against the capitals.

Skyblade, how did you get that many torps on a Destroyer? Not buy any Turrets/other upgrades? It could be done, but I would think the result wouldn't be that effective because you sacrifice so much other stuff. Or where you using plugs again? 🙂

Well, like I've said before, my copy of Escape Velocity has been so edited, you would think it was a totally different game (even the start-up screen is different). Every detail, even down to the room a ship has, has been edited in some form or another. The Rebel Destroyer now comes standard with four quad laser turrets (weighing twenty tons each), two torpedo launchers with fifteen torpedoes, two missile launchers with fifteen missiles, and one rocket launcher with five heavy rockets. And then there is an extra 50 tons of weapons space left over, and thirty tons of cargo. Although it might sound like the Destroyer it too powerful, the Confederation ships have been heavilly updated as well. The frigate even carries two neutron blasters. 🙂 Watching a frigate and destroyer dull is always interesting...You never know which ship will win.

    • I generally use torpedoes over missiles, because they do more damage. Although missiles are more able to catch fast ships, I find that any ship fast enough to evade my torpedoes is usually weak enough to destroy with primary weapons only.

    • True, but sometimes when those Patrol ships or Defenders are swarming, I just want to knock 'em off quick. Also, Missiles are incredibly useful against Lightnings and Rapiers in particular. Those two can do some damage with Rockets in close, and are shielded well enough that primaries don't always take them in one pass. On the other hand, 3/5 Missiles disables a Lightning/Rapier for boarding. Also, they fit better on small ships that don't have enough juice in the primary batteries. 🙂

Well now, even though we have two widely-varrying opinions on governments, we do atleast agree on the use of torpedoes. 🙂

(P.S.- There is a David Arthur who is the assistant pastor of my church. Funny there is someone here at the forums with the same name...)

I strongly agree here, but i usually carry heavy rockets or javelins to supplement my primary weapons.

      Vote = torps.
