EV or EVO. Hmmm, let's see....
The two are very different. EV, for one, had a more "international" feel to it (probably because of the large number of independent systems, unlike EVO where most of the planets are owned by governemnts, save for a few south of UE space.) you went to spaceports and they each a specific "character" to it (The "Frozen Heart"/"Femme Fatale" universe, in this regard, did EV one better). Also, EV seemed more balanced in ships than EVO. Let me explain: I recently downloaded Schmelta-V. I then made a plugin with one new mission "Big Battle." It was a battle between 15 Rebel ships and 15 Confed ships. And the battle was huge. The ships went all over the screen. I did not participate in the battle, but I enjoyed watching the to and fro of it. Compare that to EVO, when I first did the Battle of Voinia in "Reign on the UE." Rather than the massive, system-wide battle I hoped it to be, it turned out to be a close-range slugfest near Voina. So I split the battle up into two parts (defeat the Voinian fleet and lead the UE attack fleet) so that the two sides could meet each other and fight, instead of just fighting as a jumped into the system. On the ohter hand, when I earlier did a similar battle (just for fun) in the Eltor system (w/no stellars), the battle was system-wide. Maybe it was just those UE Dreadnoughts in the Battle of Voinia....
On the other hand, EVO gets you into the action more quickly (at least for me.) I, for one, have never been able to access the Rebel missions or Confed (well, I did do one Confed mission recently- the first shipping one) in EV. In EVO, as soon as you go into Earth's bar, you get a UE shipping mission that can eventually lead you to greater things. Also, the Miranu missions start immediately upon entering Mira's bar. As a result, I am a trader in EV and a warrior of sorts in EVO (I've done the UE central objective, done the nebula missions, completed Paaren station, and am on the Izadra string.) Also, in dissension from LovEV, the Renegades in EVO are easier than the Pirates in EV. (I hated being killed by a pirate Clipper's missiles in EV) In fact, I've conquered Gorky in the Yelts system in EVO, though I have not killed many pirates, or anything else for that matter, in EV. Also, EVO is designed for extensions, while EV is not (storyline-wise). All the EVO central objectives are open ended (the pushing back of the Voinian frontier (what will come of this alliance), the nebula exploration (what lies beyond the nebulae), the destablization of the Strand War (how will it end, if it does?)), not to mention Council Station and what lies beyond the Crescent. Just compare the major good expansion plugins for the two games. In EV, they are usually expansions of the universe (like Pale) or they modify the storyline somewhat/begin after a certain time (New Horizons and Mugabi & Destiny, for example). In EVO, they mostly continue the storyline where the mission objectives leave off (Reign of the Voinians 1 & 2, Reign of the UE :), F-25, Secession, and Beyond the Crescent, just to name a few off the top of my head.)
Finally, EVO seems to be the underdog in this poll, so my vote goes to...
EVO.
God bless,
UE Patriot
