I'm wondering what kind of ship everyone flies, why, and exactly how they outfit their different ships.

I occasionally use a kestrel w/ the maneuver outfits (all 3), 4 shield caps, the shield reg, maybe tritanium, 3 proton turrets, 2 missile racks, as many missiles as i can carry, 2 lightnings, 2 fuel tanks, afterburner, and ramscoop (i think).

However, i've been thinking of switching to a 'vette, destroyer, reb. cruiser, rapier, or maybe even a lightning.

Any thoughts would be welcome (on any ship).

I usually skip all turrets, cannons, and armor of any sort, and just stock up on missiles/torpedoes. This only works with a kestrel or higher skilled ship, because they can afford to take hits. I always get speed, turn, and accel upgrades, along with ALL shield modifiers. One interesting strategy is to get as many neutron blasters as you can, and sneak up behind destroyers.....

I outfit my cruiser(Reb) with almost everything. Shield, armor,cannons,missles upgrades,enything and everything!

I don't care for armor... since I despise close combat. Armor only takes into effect when you loose all your shields, right?

Grab yourself a Rebel Destroyer, and prepare to crush your Confederation Frigate counterparts. I usually outfit the ship with four proton turrets, two torpedo launchers, and around one hundred torpedoes. If I still have extra room, then I usually go for twin javelin pods, and possibly armor or shield enhancers...

My Rebel Cruiser has all armor, all engine upgrades, the radar upgrades, missle jammer, ramscoop, 2 fuel tanks, 4 proton turrets, 5 proton guns, 2 laser cannons, an afterburner, all shield upgrades, and...hmmm...I think that's it. I still have 37 tons left after all that without a mass expansion. Oh, and a cloaking device. Very fun!

Wow...You've got yourself a powerful energy gunship. I would recommend selling your two laser cannons, (I hate having little green streakes mixed in with a bunch of Proton fire. :)) buying a mass expansion, and buying some missiles or torpedoes. Whatever you do, using up all your weapon's space is usually a good idea...

Don't buy a Rapier or Lightning unless you want a challenge.

I like neat close range combat - I use a Rebel Destroyer for this.

No extra armour, all shields upgrades, all speed upgrades, all special
upgrades, protons maxed out, and a whole bunch of missiles.

Like I said, I'm always very neat. I destroy fighters without taking ANY
damage by outcircling them, and spearhead any fleet ships, even if I have the
power to them on head on head.

I used to, and sometimes still do, do all this with the slower but nicer looking
Kestrel.

Let's see.... Right now I'm using a corvette with as many laser turrets it can hold (not enough money to buy protons), 15 missiles, 10 torpedoes, and the lowest level of armor. I'm not gonna buy anything major till I get a kestrel.

my reb cruiser is outfitted with all shield upgrades, all proton guns/turrets, 2 laser cannons, speed turn. man. upgrades, all sensor dish add-ons, and whatever i feel like at the moment. rawzer, you've slowed down in the posts, look at mine and rebel council's posts.

Hehehe, gotta love the rapier! I sat there for ages, blowing the crap out of pirate corvettes, argosies and clippers with my rapier. Maxed out shields, nice loads of guns, some missles (and always have a missle jammer), an afterburner and the iff decoder + density scanner.

that was untill i got my new corvette.....

(this of course was a new game i started a couple days ago...;-))
