    • I just traded my Rebel Destroyer for a Lightning. Up until then I had never played with it. I am now convinced that you are mad, Silver Dragon. The ship is pitiful. I come out of Hyperspace to find some missles waiting for me and BOOM! No more Lightning. It is just a super-Defender. The Lightning is only for people who want a challange. The best ship IS the Rebel Destroyer. So please stop embarassing yourself by saying otherwise.

Ships one fights when taking over a planet: (from easiest to most difficult)

      Defender -no explanation needed
Rapier- it doesn't use its best weapon (torpedos) if you have a speed upgrade
Lightning- it uses missles and heavy rockets
      Corvette- missles and higher shields

Ouch! I would have regrets for years if I did that... πŸ™‚ It is obvious that the Rebel Destroyer is an all-time EV favorite.

      <good stuff snipped>

As I said: sobering empirical evidence, my friends. I was prepared to bet against the Lightning (and loudly). Now I'm glad I didn't. πŸ™‚

      WHAT!

I don't (yet) have the skill to roll my own plug and try this, but I dearly want to validate your results. I only see this battle when a non-pirate kestrel meets a pirate rapier. The kestrel launches lightnings against the rapier. The rapier takes missle damage, but swats one of the lightnings with a rocket. The rapier dies soon after to missle fire from the remaining ships.

    • Come on why dont you people like Rebel Cuisers. They are awsome. They relice(?) 3 mantas with about 3 missles each plus the cruiser has about 10-12 missles.Sure its kind of slow at first but if upgraded becomes quite fast(if you put all up grades on it, it becomes very monuverable and strong.

    • What are they smoking? Three missiles taken to a Lightning will disable it. The damn Bounty Hunter carries around two, so I never worry about loosing lightnings. You don't even have to chance the odds, you just pop it right into your bay.

    • Hey, I know, but I'm considering coss/mass/how fun it is.

Plus, when it's a human piloting it missiles are just little harmless things that
dance around at your tail. πŸ™‚

Wow! There's a big yellow little dancing thing! Ah, doesn't it look like a little
      cute rabbit?

Hmmm...Have you ever looked at the Rebel Cruiser's stats, RC? The Rebel Cruiser is my second-favorite ship of the game, but here's a few corrections: The Rebel Cruiser holds 4 mantas, each of which are armed with a single missile and two swivel laser cannons. The Rebel Cruiser holds about twenty missiles, and about the same number of torepedos. I think it might carry around six heavy rockets? I can't remember...So anyway, maybe the Rebel Cruiser is a little stronger then you thought? πŸ˜‰

    • Manta has 3 swivel lasers, and 2 missiles. Rebel Cruiser holds 20 missiles, 8 heavy rockets, and has no torpedos.

    • I thought the Rebel Cruiser had 7 rockets. Oh well, I sell 'em anyway. And, rebel council? They (B) release (b) 4 mantas. πŸ˜‰

    • The thing is, that it has room for improovement. If you have the money(Wich I do )you could upgrade it, sell the rockets, mass expand it , all three types of armor, the sheld booster ,some more cannons ,and buy missles with the rest of the space. That costs about 1.5 mil but it turns your Cruiser in to a fast monuverable(?) and powerful ship(very powerful). But the destroier has less cargo space ,less weapon and overall a smaller ship.

"Super-Defender" is the perfect description, Emperor Ent. And I believe you are right on another point: Silver Dragon must be mad. (But did you notice he's using EV on a PC? That explains so much more....) πŸ˜„

    • HA HA HA! Mad....PC.... I get it. And super defender, I was thinking about it from the time it was posted, and I agree it is the best description of a Lightning I've herd sinse I've been posting on the board.

I bet his EV is slower than EV on a 68k mac, so he is forced to use the fastest ship available (with enough power to be useful) in order to have any fun.

Wait a minute...Are you sure about that? Last time I remembered, the Cruiser's standard armament was four proton turrets, four neutron blasters, and 25 torpedoes, and four Condeferation Patrol Ships...I'm not sure about missiles.

    • You guys make it sound like you can't sell the rocket launcher and buy another fighter bay. Unless you can't....... πŸ˜• Not that I've had a Cruiser...... yet. πŸ™‚

I believe in the latest version of Escape Velocity, you can purchase up to two bays...The Confederation now permits the player to purchase Gunboat (Junkboat is the more common term... :D) Bays once he completes all the Confed mission strings. So I'm pretty sure you can get more then one bay, atleast if you're working for the Confederation (which is a sad and terrible choice. ;))

      1. I only use a PC because my brother bought me one ( :frown:) and although we have
a Mac it keeps messing up when I play EV/EVO so I'm not allowed anymore.

      2. I don't play EV/EVO under emulation. I quite simply don't play it at all. Try
doing that some time - you end up getting very homesick of your old fighter. :frown:

      Super defender? Pah! No way!
