    • Asteroids

OK, here's the situation: you're in a Corvette with no escorts, and your only weapon is a set(2)of missle racks and a stash of 50 missles to go with them. Now, you detect a pirate Kestral with 2 lightnings. You want to disable the kestral, and disable or destroy the fighters. Would you rather be in a system with no asteroids, light asteroids, moderate or heavy? My vote goes to none, because my strategy is to run away from the ship but face towards it, then shoot down the chasing fighters, then disable the kestral. This strategy works best for me because I can dodge the missles in my super fast 'Vette. Anyway whats your opinion? I'll probably tally the votes at the end.

      P.S. True story.

      ------------------

    • First off, you don't have the Guapo Corvette™, right?

      Lose the missiles.

Load up on Proton guns and turrets.

Get a set of torpedoes. (You won't be using them here - they're for disabling exec. transports and bulk freighters.)

Load up with a shield charger and 4 capacitors.

      Get a missile jammer.

      Find a Kestrel.

      Dodge his missiles.

      Kill his lightnings.

Then go head-to-head. Guns versus guns.

      Watch him fry.

You outgun him and out shield him. Hardly fair.

Bonus: If you have a tracto beam, try to disable his lightnings. Then tractor them onto the disabled Kestrel. They will automatically dock. Now board the Kestrel and plunder the 2 lightnings.

Sell them for a million each.

    • I don't know, my strategy has worked 2 out of 2 times in the past, and anyway, you never told me your opinion.

      ------------------

    • I would have to say I would perfer heavy asteroids. It's easyer for missles to get diverted.Um,just why do you want to know?

    • In my old Corvette I could outrun Lightings and those pitiful missiles. On the other hand, I never tried to nail a Kestrel.

    • Seeing as the Kestrel will launch torpedoes first, I'd say a system with asteroids. With a missile jammer, definatly. In a system with asteroids, the computer won't plot any rocks outside of the screen, so once the projectile is off the screen, it'll head straight for the target. So asteroids are a good thing.
I don't believe that going 1-on-1 with a kestrel in a corvette, even if it does have max shield and armor, is a good thing. A Kestrel has much more shielding than a corvette, so, in my opinion, it'll be very close. I do like to have a lot of armor or shield left after a battle, just incase a corvette or another kestrel jumps in. But yes, I'd agree with losing the missiles. Get the torpedoes in (you only need 1 launcher) proton turrets, tritanium, shield capacitors etc and you'll have a dandy craft. I used a corvette like that to complete the rebel alien missions string... sigh memories...

      ------------------

    • Still...personally I think asteroids just get in the way. I can outrun or outmaneuver most missles. I might side with you cuys once I get a slower, deadlier, bigger, more expensive ship.

      ------------------

    • Try a rebel cruiser. That's what I've got, along with 5 corvettes and a Rapier for escorts. I don't even need to shoot anything anymore, just leave it to the escorts.

      ------------------

    • Well,if he's in a Corvette,he probably doesn't have the money or mission bit set inorder to get the Rebal Cruiser.

    • Hell I wouldn't even go for a corvette. I would use my maxed out Clipper to diable and board the lightings as escorts and thenuse the monty python manuver on the kestral to diable him. Easy but takes alot of time

    • I've just recently gotten back into the game... ie as of yesterday, but had it for a long time on my old cpu.
I'd go with lots of asteroids. I used to take out pirate kestrels by dropping decoy flares until they'd run out of missles, use my own missiles on the escorts, and fly away from the kestrel so that it was following just in shot, turn around and disable it with javelin rockets.

    • I'd go for no asteroids, my tactic in any situation is to sit back and blaze away with my secondaries (alternating between torps and missles for maximum fire rate, why don't the computer ships ever think of that?). Then if I want to board them, I'll go in and finish them off with my guns, and if I don't I keep firing until they're gone.
If there are any asteroids in the system, said secondaries get wasted.

    • Actually, asteroids only exist in the area that you can see from your ship. Beyond that, EV treats everything else as asteroid-free.

If you fire a missile and it dosn't hit an asteroid when its within your viewing area, its gonna hit, unless the lucky ship getting attacked is far, far away. To make sure it dosn't hit an asteroid, use autopilot to point yourself right at the ship, wait for asteroids in front to clear up, and fire away. It works great.

Also, what Guapo said about the Corvette can be done with the Rapier too, and for much less credits. Also, a Rapier gives you much more shielding. Once you experience the shield regeneration of a Rapier, everything else seems too weak.

    • I didn't know that, how totally non-realistic but in a good way. I'm thinking about retiring to a rapier and becoming a bounty hunter once I've killed the alien cruiser.

    • corvet(dont know how to spell) is pretty good so you should keap the missles. fire at the lightnings(2 msles)for each then circle the krestel (doging light asteroid interference)
when hes down on shield attack it with all your turrets. 🙂

    • i would fly away from the kestrel shoot one forklift at each of his escort fighters and clode in on him and when i see him on my map shoot a forklift at him at start blasting missiles at him until his shields are down then blast him with my guns until hes disabled(id also use the forklift on the alien cruiser.have you not found the alien or just not been able to blow him up?and rawzer knows how to get the forklift if you dont know how) 🙂
