    • It is possible to beat him. Without cheating, I may add. It was difficult and I only think it is possible with the confed cruiser and some strong allies. Before you attack, freeze your allies (In my case, 6 captured Confed Cruisers) and then fire on him. Run around until you are out of range to him and take out his fighters one by one. Then launch all of your own. Release your allies and send your fighters in. 2nd weapon torps and fire as fast as possible. Get up close with you allies and always sit on opposite side of the bulf of them. All of you firing at once confuses the ship and almost disables his use of the rockets. The conmbined firepower takes a while to win, I personally lost 5 of the 6 Cruisers with the last at 35% shields with myself at 55% shields. After disabling his shields, I called off the cruiser (all fighters were lost) and I disabled his fleeing ship. I then stole my rightful credits and tried to take the ship. Kaboom and it was gone. Only now he is hunting me.

      ------------------

Are you gonna tell him that's a boy cow?
      Naw, he'll figure it out.

    • Once you irritate him, he really seems to hunt YOU, huh?

The last time I jumped into Orion's system (I think) Matt immediately attacked me. I decided to try the "Beg for Mercy, so he cannot use his secondaries" tactic, and then blast 'im. (Arrgh!!! He's gonna be mine, now!)

Imagine how foolish I felt when Matt just took my credits, ignored the beating I was administering, and "Zip!" He was gone ... and so were my credits. (AAArrrrgh!!!)

    • Heh, never did that. I just run away whenever I see him now. How many credits did he take?

Hehe...Never provoke Matt, because once you destroy him, he's out to destroy you, and will administer a sharp victory over you in a instant. 🙂

Don't recall exactly, but I think it was something like 6,000.

I have determined one cannot beat him in a 'Vette. I just battled him like a maniac when he jumped on me ("Eat blazing electric death!" right after I had demanded tribute from Sirius Station. (What a sneak!!!) Dodging him, fighting the Patrol Ships and Gunships and (nearly) getting creamed by Matt's Lightnings, I managed to dominate Sirius. I finished off Matt's Lightnings and backed off to recharge my shields. Now for Matt's Kestrel...!

I lured him (What a joke! He stalked me!) as far into a corner of Sirius' space as I could without directly engaging him. My plan was to get as far away from MB as possible and then run straight at him while unloading everything I had in secondary weapons.

(Thankfully, a Confed Cruiser attacked me in the process of drawing MB into a corner. I say "thankfully" because once I disabled the Cruiser, I then had a full load of torps again....)

I managed to time the recharging of my shields and the "cornering" of MB pretty much simultaneously. I zoomed away to the diagonally opposite corner, stopped and unloaded
about ten torps at him. Then I hit the gas right for MB, using autopilot for guidance, all the while firing every torpedo in my holds. (Yeah, all 16....)

My thinking was my 'Vette's superior speed would assist me in having the torpedos hit him in as rapid-fire a manner as possible ... certainly lowering his shields enough for me to finish him with my javelins (over 900) and protons in close combat. Well, it seemed like a good plan at the time....

(Keep in mind, I have fully outfitted and upgraded this Corvette: maximum shields, armor, sheild generators ... and that "illegal" shield booster thing. I also have mass expanded it as much as possible. The only ship I have trouble beating is the Rebel Cruiser. (Okay, the Alien Cruiser was pretty tough, too. ...And don't ask me how as a
pirate I got the Alien mission. I was amazed....))

I could not believe it. As I arrived for close combat, MB's shields were "down" to an amazing 93%. (Yikes!!!) In no time, I had him down to 88% ... but in that same few moments I was already down to paper thin armor (!!!). Time to run...!

I was so busy hitting him with my weapons, I am not sure of everything he threw at me. But I know I saw heavies and missles, in addition to his proton fire.

I just landed on Palshife and bought a Rebel Cruiser. I'll get him next time.... (Arrgh!)

    • Alright, since this topic is on Matt Burch's Kestral, I thought I would post my story about the day when I got him... 🙂

Matt Burch! After a long and stressful hunt, I had finally found the guy I wanted to destroy...I had completed all the Confederation missions. (for once: I've only done the Confederation strings once, and the Rebellion string about five or six times. 🙂 ) I was now proudly flying my Confederation Cruiser: The most powerful vessel in the game, besides a high-tech kestral with the name of "Matt Burch." Since I had now completed all the missions, all I wanted to do now was blow up the rediculous kestral, and I was content to do so. After stumbling over him in a system in the southern portion of the galaxy, I decided it was time to fight. I fired a single torpedo at him to announce I meant bussiness. Of course, he released his enhanced lightings at me, and we dulled it out. The lightings fired rocket after rocket and plenty of javelins and laser beams, but they weren't a match for such a large capital ship. My proton turrets slowly tore through the lightings shields, and my neutron cannons and heavy rockets continued to fire as well. Before long, both the lightings were a flaming ruin, and my shields were at 60 percent shields. I now headed away from Matt's approaching Kestral to give me some time to recharge my shields. Since his ship was faster then mine, I released my five patrol ships, and ordered them at the powerful ship to evade his attention from me. The patrol vessels didn't last to long, but I was firing torpedoes all the while. (I had three launchers, so I could shoot them pretty rapidly) By the time all the patrol ships were destroyed, Matt's shields were now at 78%. I still had a long way to go, but I was going to try. Now that my shields were around 90%, I made a dash at the enraged kestral. As I headed torward him, I was able to release about ten torpedoes in rapid succession, followed by two heavy rockets and plenty of proton fire. As I past by, I took a couple of heavy rockets and proton fire in the front as well, depleting my shields to about shields to about 70%. Matt was now at 50% shields, but they were recharging quite rapidly. I decided to head away from him, and let him slowly catch up with me, while I fired my torpedoes. Since I had a rediculous store of 100 torpedoes, the supply didn't bother me. As Matt got closer, I released around thirty torpedoes before we were in turret range. His shields now dipped to 27%, and we began to dull at close range. I then received a huge number of heavy rockets, which brought me down to half my normal shield status. We continued to face one another, and my torpedoes and protons continued to fire. I quickly switched over to me neutron blasters, which I had no idea how much of an effect they had on the kestral. Atlast, Matt was down to 2% shields, and I was down to 10% shields. Matt began to flee in an attempt to leave the system. I wasn't letting him leave this fight after such a long engagement! As he fled, I released a long volley of torpedoes, finally disabling him. I was so enraged at the galactic menace that I didn't care to steel all the money he carried. I destroyed him instantly, roaring with laughter at the same time. "I got you, Matt! You are no longer the most powerful vessel in the universe!!!" (no offense, Matt, but I just had to share the story. 🙂 ) Hope you all liked the story. Also, I wanted to know how you all have been able to destroy Matt Burch? What kind of tactics did you use? What ship did you fly? Share away!

I then proceeded to delete and reinstall. Imagine my frustration before I found out that I had accidentally switched them. I thought it was programmed that way..... GOD IM DUMB

    • I'm afraid I must admit, the only way I've been able to take him out is with some weapons from various plugins. (the Sound Wave from the quantumire trilogy did quite nicely, even though it wasn't technically a kestrel that he was in...)

Nooooooooo! I found him but I was racing to another system so I had held down the J key. It was too late. Please, there must be some way to make him show up in a set system at a set time. Aaaaaaaaaaaargggggggg!!! (I'm a little peeved right now.)

LOL! That must have been a fun event. Of course, then you would be able to kill hector so it wasn't all bad.

    • No hector was still invincible, everything stayed the same, but their roles in the game. matt just had his normal amount of shields.

Can't help you there, GWG. I can tell you that what seemed to make MB stalk me was shooting down his Lightnings in our second skirmish. Ever since then MB seems to find me -- not the other way around.

      Happy Hunting.

    • The torpedo pummeling technique works great against him. I still have to vanquish him in EVO. It's a whole different ball game there pilgram...
      ---
      Everyone is mortal but me.

    • back in the days when i still played ev, i used my souped up shuttle to take matt out...not much of an accomplishment considering the shields were off the chart with a better recharge rate than even matt...plus i had a docking bay with thousands of corvettes at my will...then of course the standard thousands of torps, heavy rockets and i think javelins.

after a few minutes he was destroyed, that was fun.

    • My pilot upgraded to a Rebel Cruiser "just" to beat MB. He jumped me (in either Agena or Adhara) and I was READY. Wiped out his Lightnings -- and the band of pirates which
simultaneously attacked me. Then I turned to Matt's Kestrel.

(BTW, I arrived at a new dogfighting technique which works with anything from Rapiers to Confed Cruisers. I slide in at an oblique angle and hold down "autopilot" and my turrets at the same time. My ship circles fast enough to avoid at least half the bogies' primary and/or secondary weapons (which protects my shielding) while chewing away at the bogies' shields. As soon as he is disabled, I disengage autopilot and spin off after another target. I could not wait to try this on Matt's Kestrel....)

First, I tried the Monty Python.... No good. His shield refresh was just too fast.

Second, I backed off and tried the previously mentioned "diagonal run hitting him with torpedos and closing with my proton turrets".... Also no good. I got his shield down to only 82% and while turreting him, those regenerators built him right back up again.

Third, tried the autopilot/turret move (described above) ... and added my remaining six torpedos. This, too, was ineffective -- but at least my Cruiser was withstanding his batteries pretty well. My shields were down to about half ... and holding there. (It was kinda fun; circling MB at high speed and blasting away without personal risk.)

"Oops!" MB must have gotten bored with my game.

Suddenly I was hit with at least a dozen heavy rockets. My shields were gone in a flash. My armor, in a blink.

      "What's that klaxon for? Rats!!!"

      I died.
