      Me too. The EV galaxy was simple, and thus nice for starting out, but then you really should go to bigger things, like EVO.

    • Y'know, as the kind of defacto EVN 'scenario-guy', it has certainly been interesting reading all of this. Hearing what you guys like and dislike about EV and EVO is both good and bad from my perspective. Good because I get an insight into what it is you guys really like about EVN's two predecessors, and bad because what one person thinks is a bad thing, someone else thinks is a good thing.

      I'm tempted to start asking a few questions, but I'm afraid that they would seem a little impertinent on an EV board, as they would be mostly to do with EVN.

    • One little tiny question about EV Nova: In EV, a lot of the systems were named after real stars or constellations. In EVO, almost all the systems (if not every single system besides Sol) had made-up names. In EVN, will there be mostly made-up system names, or real system names along with made-up names?

    • I liked the cozy feeling I got as I few around EV, so it is probably my favorite. EVO was a bit scary and I never quite feel safe when I play it (too many unihabited worlds inside governements), although the plot is much better. I think I'll like EVN's universe the best though, because I know ATMOS is going to do a really cool job.

      And now I will go into detail:

      The thing with EV was that it was a universe of balance. In Confed systems, there was almost always a few ships to protect you from pirates, and often there wasn't anything to fear anyway. Rebel systems were more dangerous, but that was expected and it made the game more interesting. The pirate worlds were out in the edges, and you never really needed to go through them except during a few missions. The independant worlds were placed very well, and added to the balance, often separating the warring governments, but not completely. The Cydonian/Lythean(?sp?) governments were great too, because it was balanced and was like a scaled-down version of the Rebel/Confed war. I hope that EVN will include a few minor conflicts between the same races, as EVO unfortunately did not. Such governments wouldn't need any major plotlines, except the occational mission of enemies attacking the system.

      Okay, now for EVO. I loved the idea of a non-static universe, with many large storylines. The problem with that universe was that the individual governments were too spread out, with too many uninhabited systems. I never found a safe "center" of the UE, strands, or miranu governments. I know that the reason for this was the vonian and strand wars, but that doesn't mean that the miranu can't have a core, with miranu independant worlds at the outer edges. I hope that EVN will have independant worlds for other species, similar but different from the strandless worlds.

      In conclusion, EV had a universe that could be easily understood, with many interesting independant worlds. EVO was great in its changing universe, but I never understood it, and missed the little people. I hope that EVN will make a perfect blend of the two ideas, yet on a much larger scale.

      Whew, that took a long time. I'm going to leave the boards now and eat my dinner. 😛

      Remembering the person who claimed that EVGE was a 'perfect' balance in terms of the size of the galaxy ... I seem to remember, when I played that plug, becoming somewhat frustrated at the number of low-paying courier missions that sent me 23 systems away and barely ended up turning a profit over the fuel costs (ok, that's an exaggeration).
      Was EVO like that at all?

      Actually no. After you set up trade between Humans and Miranu, there are missions that take you between destinations in any part of cresent/miranu/human space. These are only in the mission computer though, not special missions. The special missions did require a lot of travel, but you were compensated well.

    • I prefer Escape Velocity to Override, because it seems to me that while EV sets up a scenario where you can choose a cause you agree with, EVO relies far to much on telling you who are the "good guys" and "bad guys."

    • The Miranu delivery missions in EVO pay up to 100,000 credits, for urgent delivery, and as they can be destined to any planet in the galaxy, other than the Voinian ones, there's never much of a problem with trekking way out - you just use discretion as always :).

      And about good guys and bad guys: this is only visible in the UE vs. Voinians, given that you start in UE space and well, you are a human.. and know a little of the history, not to mention the fact that the Voinian systems consider you a criminal from the start. And also the fact that no other race in the galaxy has any connection with them - they aren't interested in getting stuff delivered from other places, and their missions are totally bent on destruction. But in the crescent there is no feeling of good vs. bad.. mainly because there's little understanding of why the war is on - that part of the game is very much a choice thing, more like rebels or confeds.

      Anyway, thinking about the strands - you had to know where to get the missions to join the strands. I originally found out from the old EVO website, but otherwise there was only really one of three that you could easily come across by chance, and as two of them require a one or two-day jump ship it could be a bit of a pain if you didn't know. But in EV much of the game was spent in such a ship and there was no chance of having to go that far - plus of course there was not that far to search around for missions.

      One thing I really liked in EV was the missions you could get from communicating with merchant freighters, all the S.S.... which were really reduced in Override, but made one feel that they weren't alone out there :).
