My problem is that I have neither the patience nor the money to get on the net with the mac (I have a pretty nifty thinkpad courtesy of an insurance payout). Could I download plug-ins on to a PC disk and then use PC Exchange to copy them to the mac?

Save them to a disk, as WinZip files. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNSTUFF THEM! Then just copy them to your Mac.
No PC Exchange needed, since these ae Mac files.
This assumes your mac has Stuffit Expander. If it dosn't, you're out of luck. Try to see if you have a mac using freind who can bring it on a floppy.
