    • Web based multiplayer EV

Why hasn't ambrosia made a web based EV universe?

      I beat ya!!!

    • What do you mean by that 😕

      ------------------

    • Well, they don't want to and they don't have the resources.

Matt Burch once made an Arena-Style EV Multiplayer (sorta like Helian Wars, only better I would imagine). Or at least he said he did this on IRC.

He said he deleted it becasue it was not EV. EV is a single-player adventure game, not a shoot-them-up. Online EV would be all fighting. It just wouldn't be EV.

    • Hmmmmm, I can't say that I agree with you OctoberFost, but I can't say I actually disagree with you either. I'm not sure. But even though, you have to admit that multiplayer EV would be kinda cool, wouldn't it?

However, there would be major problems with the programming. Also, the probability of you running into another multiplayer would be extremely low, due to the fact that you land on different planets, and travel at different times using different hyper routes. Since usually two days go by when you travel through hyperspace, it would be very hard to run into someone else. They could be in there one day, and the next, they're gone just as you hyper in.

One programming problem is the way for people to join the game. And another, the hailing thing would have to be changed for communication between multiplayers. Another problem is what happens when someone takes off and lands, what does it look like? Normally ships just hover over the planet, and you can attack them any time. This is different with the actual player. It would have to look something like the PICTs used in Ares when a transport lands on a planet. There are also numerous other problem, of which I can't remember right now.

He did, sorta. It was called Exobattle. In it, you would fly a Manta against other players in Mantas, and against AI Mantas (Which you could release when you wanted). If I'm not mistaken, you'd have a laser-type weapon (It has a limited energy supply, but this supply regenerates), a mass-driver-type weapon (Which had about 40 rounds of ammo) and 4 missiles (I don't remember if they were guided). To reload your mass-driver or missile supply, you could dock at a station (It takes a little practice not crashing into it). The station also repairs your shields and armor (Although your shields will regenerate anyway). There are asteroids which can block your fire as in EV, but you can crash into them. The planet can also be crashed into (Landing wasn't implemented).

It is completely different from Helian Wars in that there was no interaction. No chat, no outfitters or shipyards, only dogfights over LAN (Not even internet, although there was single player against the AI). Helian Wars will probably be much better, although I think I'll keep Exo around until it comes out. I still play it once in a while.

      I have Exobattle!

    • Actually, ASW has said that they do have the resources but they're not interested, besides, Tycho and Sebek are taking care of it.

WHy would they not be interested? There is all the proper motivation, money, and entertainment.

    • There is some information about multiplayer in this article: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum20/HTML/000005.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/000005.html(/url)

    • All right, I andmit it. It isn't very practical but it would be realy fun to actually have a challenge every now and then.

    • No, I'm not talking about Exobattle.

He made an actual top-down EV Arena application that looked like EV, or at least he said on IRC.

Anyway, EV is Matt's game. If he dosn't want an EVMP, there shall be no EVMP.
