    • Has Anyone Actually Captured Sol?

Alright, i usually hang out on the ares boards just cause ive had EV for YEARS and kinda got board with it after beating that Empire plug about three times. but i mostley dont play anymore because my mom trashed all my games about two years ago and i had lost the registration code (never expecting this to happen).

But too get to the point i once conqured the entire galaxy exept for Sol. i Spent 2 and a half hours once but to no avail none of these planets will ever EVER run out of ships. Is it possible too beat it?

If she only trashed the games, you can still red/l EV and it will remember your reg code because the code isn't stored in a place you can change it. So it will be registered when you reinstall it.

    • My god are you serious, will it work if i install it from a disk?

    • You mean a CD, yes? I shouldn't think it would matter whether you reinstalled EV by downloading it or by installing from CD or from disk (several disks, actually, as the file is too large for just one disk).

I am sure that Chamrin is right, but even if he weren't, you could probably prevail upon Jen or somebody else at Ambrosia to reissue your reg code. After all, you did actually pay your reg fee...

    • yeah I'm sure I'm right, I tried to delete the license file and every ev file I could find so I could learn the date of when I first played EV, you know it stores how long you've had ev for use in the reg boxes, but it seems it keeps the reg code in the same place, so you can't get rid of it without reformatting the disk. So I still don't know the first day I played EV, unless somebody figured out where this little bit of info is stored, in the pram maybe?

Anyway, yes reinstalling it, anyway will work.

If you don't know your code for any ambrosia game, well there's this:
"Ambrosia Software, Inc. maintains a database of registered users, so if you should happen to lose your license code, simply eMail the name of the product and your full name to lostcodes@AmbrosiaSW.com, and we will send your code to you."

    • I captured Sol once using my mighty fleet. Took about 2 minutes. I never really counted my ship total, but I think it was more then 2 dozen...

And no...I'm not talking about a cheat here. You really can have dozens of escorts, for a hefty price.

    • I downloaded the 'Bays Galore' plug, and got 100 alien cruisers and a bay for them. I could only eject 36, though. But anyway, I demanded tribute and they just gave over without a fight! Get bays galare from (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.ambrosias.../ev/addons.html(/url) .

    • sol has several hundred ships, i think; all you have to do is get to point where it takes mere seconds to kill each one they send out. missiles are out of the question -- just max out on the best turreted weapons you can buy and get good armor. furthermore, there is a maximum of 38 ship "slots" in any given system. with one taken by you, and 36 max excorts/fighters, that means the defense force can send out one ship at a time. however, due to some odd bug in the game, if they cant send out at least their normal amount at one time (five for sol) they will surrender after you kill the first wave. this means that if there is a big battle going on in sol and you tiem it right ytou can win with basically no fight. try it out. good for a few bucks.

    • I tried that once and I was sitting there for 2 and a half hours but it didnt look like they would run out of ships. I was really pist off so I left the room, leaving my friend Rasmus alone to play. I came in ten minutes later to find him dominating the hole galaxy, including the Sol system. The trick is to disable as many ships and defenders as you can in the actual system or have heaps of escorts so the AI who are often set to only allow 7 or 8 ships in a system at a time. When you have done that, usually one or two ships come out and after they are destroyed, demand tribute again, done. Another way is to release 36 escorts and do the same trick. Works as well.

NOTE: This may not work on any new version of EV , like I said, this happened a while ago. But if you want to you can do your own plug with EV-Edit and lower the number of ships defending SOL. I think it is 9999 ships there but you can change it to one or no one if you want to.

    • Actually i just conquered it tooday with EVGE in my Galaxy Destroyer (i had 100 fighters which is pointless really) The easiest plug to conquer stuff with is starwars because of all the fighters you get.

    • Yes, I did it twice without any plug-ins, using a Confed Cruiser and 6 Confed Cruiser escorts the first time and a Rebel Cruiser and 6 Rebel Cruisers the second time.
