VDPIN is something that was added in an Uplink mod. I haven't seen it myself, but it is a game of lights out.

This is how such games normally work:
Every one you click switches both it and the ones touching it. So if there was one like this (. is on, - is off):
-.-
...
-.-

Hitting the one in the middle would put them all out. If it was like this:
---
...
---
Hitting the middle one would result in this:

-.-
---
-.-

Sorry to burst your bubble but there are PC mods because IV released the source code. The Mac version is owned by contrabrand entertainment and they won't release the code, despite the fact that they did very little of the coding themselves but rather just ported it.
