game quits during launch

I've been playing uplink happily for weeks but lately when I try to start it, the little Uplink icon bounces in the dock and then disappears. I have reinstalled it a few times but nothing changes.

I have an eMac with 1.25GHz, 256 MB, using 10.3.5

It worked fine and suddenly stopped. If this is a clue: American McGee's Alice does the same thing now.

Have you changed anything recently?
Such as OS version, memory card firmware, etc.?

Nope, nuthin.

Hmm...I think I remember having this problem. I occured after I changed the resolution settings for Uplink.
I deleted some preference thing or something and it worked again. Uplink/users/options I think.
