GCD issues

Ive hacked the global criminal database dozens of times before and had no problems. Ihve had several missions lately such as discredit one of our rivals where i need to hack it. I do the exact same thing and get caught! I have the RA Access gateway. Ill explain what i do,
1. Route through all the banks
2. Start my Monitor Bypass and Proxy Disable
3. Use decypherer 3.0 and decypher the encryption cypher.
4. Crack the admin password
5. Enter the database (trace starts)
6. Turn off monitor bypass.
7. Add High Tech Fraud, Murder, and Robbery to my targets record.
8. Authorize arrest
9. Delete all logs except connection established from xxx.xxx.xxx
10. Disconnect
I then get caught for the hack... how does this happen? They didnt trace me. They didnt passive trace me, my version 4.0 trace tracker would hev spotted that right? How did i get caught?

Look at his post, dragoon. It's a gameplay question. even if you've a mac, you can answer it.

Anyway, unit321, your first bounce should be a system with low security, where you have a password. A system where you always delete all your logs. What happened is that the GCD traced you long enough to know from which server you came.
You never broke the chain at another point, and they caught you.
Next time, delete the log at your first bounce.

I did look at his post. It didn't look like he missed any steps, so I figured it was a bug.

I see.
There, the GCD started a passive trace too quickly, and when he deleted the logs, it was already too late.
Some servers are so fast that they begin a passive trace when you're still connected.

To beat the passive trace problem, connect first to Internic, the password never changes and they dont trace
So it is easy to delete the Internic logs and break the chain at a guaranteed place

I said nothing about InterNIC just to let unit321 figure it for himself.

Thanks for the advice. The GCD pr anything for that matter has never started a passive trace on me before and I thought i level4 trace tracker would tell me. It seems that in a certain point in the game (in rankings on uplink im #1) that GCD does passive traces. I deleted my logs at internic and it worked. Thanks guys

The trace tracker can only track active traces. Passive traces, which consist of admins talking to one another and looking at logs, would be impossible to track with any software.

actually, passive traces are what you do when you get a "Trace a hacker who recently broke into our system" mission later in the game. Basically, the company you hack into hires a hacker who tries to find you by reverse-hacking into the systems you came from.

I believe you are all right. It would be too easy if you could track passive traces. If there was software like that, it would be trace tracker version 5.0. It would be like two trace trackers stacked on top of each other, one for passive traces, one for active. It should be color coded so you can tell which is which. However, some ideas if someone programs this: make Uplink release it 2 months into gameplay, and make it cost 7,000 credits. That way, it's not a cheat. I hope i've made all of you happy, at both (url="http://"http://www.uplink.co.uk")Introversion(/url) and (http://www.AmbrosiaS.../news/)Ambrosia(/url).
