These are the changes since version 1.3.1:

• Optimizations to the OpenGL layer
• Users created while unregistered can now access stock market when game is registered
• IRC interface now shows CONNECT button on 640x480
• IRC user list scales
• IRC now updates while paused/in background
• IRC no longer needs a leading space
• IRC crashes due to buffer overruns fixed
• IRC now alerts when the nick is in use
• IRC now defaults to irc.ambrosia.net
• F12 no longer quits the game
• Eliminated unnecessary IRC messages
• Sound now plays when music is disabled (new sound system used as well)
• Files now compatible with PC version - LANs were broken before
• Unregistered users can no longer purchase the LAN View program
• When loading/cancelling a saved connection list that contains a link not on your list, the names sort themselves out in quick order and stop dancing.
• IP address in Network Options now displays correctly
• Now defaults to primary monitor on OS X
• Now runs in fullscreen mode on OS 9 systems with LCD monitors

That F12 thing isn't a bug, it's a feature. It automatically saves the game and quits. I used it all the time...
