You're right -- that log was changed with the Log Modifyer. Hmmm.... Is there any software in Uplink's store that might help with that?
Okay, now I'm really in trouble - noone will hire me because I abandoned a couple missions; one of them because they still wouldn't pay even after the guy had gotten arrested and was in the news, another two because I couldn't follow the hacker thanks to the absence (by which I mean complete non-existence) of helpful log entries pertaining to the date and time specified in the briefing.

Yes, the the stock market is a way to make money, however, you'll make very little unless you wait several years, by which time you'll have missed the story line and probably have lost more money than you've made through the 300 credit fees that uplink make you pay.
There is one stocl that just keeps on growing, doesnt take much of an effort to guess which 
It's much easier to make money by completly draining the accounts you investigate for the "trace this transfer" missions. Just be sure to cover your tracks - it's a lot easier to do if you've got the conn analysis and bypassers + lvl4 Log Deleter. Most of the time, you can be out of there before they even start tracing you. I've got 7 mil to spend, and nothing left to buy - I say skip over the stock market.

You can make lots of money by robbing banks, but this can take some of the fun out of the game, i really only hacked banks if I absolutly needed the money.
Anyway, this was mentioned before, about server bouncing, you get lots of time off of accounts that you legitimatly hold. This means that creating accounts at banks and the stock market, etc, will get you lots and lots of time, i dont think i use more than 6 or 7 bounces (which are just all the banks i have accounts on), and its plenty. sorry if this seems out of place, just a little advice for any readers.
Okay, now I've got a lot of "Trace the Hacker" missions where it looks like he used Log Deleter v4.0. I'm quite baffled by this, and the fact that I still can't get paid for the "friend wishes to make a donation" missions that I did a while ago.
