The posting of any - including older versions - of commercial software for downloading (stealing) is a violation of these forum guidelines, and will result in immediate banning from the boards.

If you feel you need CW4, check ebay, or any other legitimate resources where they sell older software.

Wasn't CW4 included in system software package with system 8? If the copy of ClarisWorks you have is a legit copy, there is no problem with posting it on the webspace for backing up purposes. If it is a legit copy you own, and others are able to download it, it would be their fault for obtaining the copy, as long as a disclaimer is posted along with all data posted on the backup space. So, I personally, would see no problem posting up a copy online... for backup purposes...

But I do agree, get a legit copy, it would be like what... $5 on ebay?

    • I know Avara was meant to work with ClarisWorks 4, and to be honest I would probably feel more comfortable using that. But if the coding problem was fixed in CW4, wasn't it kept in 5? Anyway, it doesn't matter right now. In some freak accident, all of the working Macs in my house simultaneously broke down, so I won't be doing anything for a while. Hopefully I'll be back up and running soon. I'll let you know when I am.

By the way, I downloaded the ALM last week, but I couldnt un-stuff it. sighhh I'm a wreck.

    • I think the safest way to get picts from Clarisworks to a level file is to follow these steps:

      1. Create the level in ClarisWorks (duh)
      2. Save the drawing as a pict file
      3. Open the pict file in simpletext (yes, simpletext)
      4. verify that no text lines have been combined
      5. Select all
      6. Copy
      7. Open the level file in ResEdit (not the pict file, the file with the LEDI resource in it)
      8. Paste the picture into resedit
      9. renumber/rename the PICT resource to whatever you need it to be.

I hope this helps. And I hope your mac gets back up soon.

    • I've managed to get most parts (walls, WallDoors, ramps, objects set by arc segments) to work properly with AppleWorks 6, so upgrading might help.

(In other news, hi. I'm between multiyear breaks from too-short Avara playing times. Actually beat the built-in missions this time.)

I always use CW4 for making levels, however I belive it doens't have a problem with creating the objects. I belive it screws up the alignment of the objects created, and also doesn't relay complicated scripting correctly. I may be wrong, since I havn't ever used appleworks for Avara levels, but I belive that is what I have heard others say.

    • I haven't used Claris Works 5 to make levels, but I have used Apple Works 6. As I recall you have to use a drawing document. All lines of code have to be seperate ( I mean they have to be made seperately ). You then have to copy into the game file or whatever. Then it should work. 🙂

    • Best thing he could do is post a snapshot of what he has made, for someone like myself (someone who knows a lot about Avara level scripting) to look it over, and see if anything is wrong. I'd be willing to do this, just e-mail it to me or something 🙂 (that is, if you are still having problems and/or still want to finish the level).

    • When I did a bit of fiddling with Avara levels a while ago I always found them to be slightly temperamental - they wouldn't work for no apparent reason, and then after some trivial change they suddenly would.

look through a faithless eye - are you afraid to die?

    • Yep, mazca, it seems different drawing programs create more or less clean picts, and avara is a bit sensible to certain strangeties.

(OT) Do you play Avara on OS X too? I would love a solution on that one.

(edit)I'm soo tempted to start in 9 and play another round of Avara. I see on the (url="http://"http://tracker.avara.com:20000/")tracker(/url) that someone is actually playing. But, it seems, my Avara folder with all my megs of levels have disappeared. :frown:

    • Make an arc with the point facing the way you want the incarning hector to face, once this is done, make a text block with:

      Object Incarnator
      y = x
      end

then group text block with arc, VOILA, not rocket science. Get CW 4.

    • Hi. Merry Christmas.
So here's my story as of the time of this writing:

I have a 66mhz Performa on my desk. My laptop's hard drive is ready to crash any day now. I am int the process of erasing the performa's hard drive to make room for the data on my laptop's hard drive, where my level is residing.

My sister and I just got new eMacs for Christmas. I MUST say, it is a very cool machine. But only one of them has been delivered yet. Being the kind soul that I am, I let my little sister have the first one. So once I recieve mine, I will continue my work from there. I'll also post a screenshot of my level file so someone can tell me where I messed up.

I will eventually make a really cool level set once I figure out how. It'll have ten levels and a story and everything.

Can the ALM let you play levels only in order, so that you can only play one level after you've beaten the previous one? That would be cool for what I'm doing.

      Thanks fof everything.

*1 Congrats on the new computer, it's always fun to get a new one 😉
*2 as much as a screenshot could help, posting the actual file would be better. Since, with the file we could also see the layers (since that can often times be the problem).
*3 I belive ALM will allow you to do that, how you go about doing that, though, I am not so sure on. If anything, there are always instructions on how to do that in the Avara Level Design Manual, using ResEdit.

I hope to get a chance to take a look at that file, and help you out.
