Be optimistic. Being the weakest game in the greatest game series of all time isn't so bad.

Assuming you're referring to (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum11/HTML/000174.html#")my(/url) old Ares: Override, than the answer is yes, it's dead. That being said, I'm now working* with ragashingo and Captain Skyblade on this project. Some of the ideas (and the name! ) from my old project are coming along for the ride too - I'll also be writing a single player campaign for it.

*To be fair to CS and raga, I haven't actually done anything yet.

Aye, that's the idea. Multiplayer Ares could use a lift over at GameRanger... there aren't any good multiplayer plugins out there to keep people playing it.

    • Well, I have four things to say:

      1. Looks excellent.

      2. Be sure to put freight-couriers in.

      3. On page 1, somebody said something about "things the ares engine couldn't handle." I'm really beginning to doubt the existance of these.

      4. EVN is definitely the worst EV game by a fair margin.

Well, then I have 4 replys.

      1. Thanks

      2. There are, they are the Rendegade's Transports

      3. Well I think he meant things like Trade or Jumping between many systems. Ares can't do those things, but it can do just about everything else

      4. Yeah, I think there was just too much hype. Its still a good game and I still enjoy playing it.

Ares plugin writer and all around helpful guy... Except possibly when it comes to certain people...

    • Trade would be rather complicated (extremely much more so if you wanted your ship to be able to hold multiple kinds of cargo at once), but I think it would be possible. Systems I'm not sure on, though, but I really wouldn't be surprised if somebody managed to do it.

    • yes finaly an ares ev!
heh ive been thinking about the idea since i got the game. i even made an attempt at it once but the files keep on beeing corrupted :frown:

trade is easy if you are making it in one syistem but inter syistem is probably impossiable. syistems i think can be possible if you consider each syistem to be a seperate level (you have "jumpgates" where when you move on to them you get moved to the next level/syistem idecated by the name of the preticulare jumpgate.) its just like a game where if you lose you go to one level and if you win you go to a compleatly differnt level.
trading can be represented by you buying ready filled fraighters full of whatever comodoty you bought then sending them to other waypoints where they dissapear to give you money.
there are probably alot of problems with these ideas so plese tell me before i put time into a plug that wont work from the start.

by the way hi every one.

Have you ever Heard of EV Net? It dont allow trade, but it's a network play scenario.
I think it's pretty good, but i am not you so...(you can find it in the many pages of addon files.)

      ------------------
      Insanity has its advantages

    • For trade, I was thinking more along the lines of EV's trading, where you have cargo on your own ship. Using a LOT of alter-basetyping, you could do it. Having different kinds of cargo, and allowing your ship to hold multiple kinds at a time, however, would take such an insane amount of work that it really wouldn't be worth it, unless you have a horde of Hera-using minions that would do it for you.

      ------------------
      "Humans are hicks."
      - Paff's Law
      It explains so much...

    • Why dirty your ship (nice brand new top of the line P-Battleship) if theres someone else whose prepaired to dirty his ship for you?

i Could attempt a cople of small one mission plugs that tryed both types of trading and some other details like pirates jumping in at random, and give them both to any one who seems intrested so we can see which one will be better?

      BTW:
is there any way of making the ships that appere stronger depending on how much money you have in the right bar?
