    • Unique Items?!


      ^^ I'm happy ^^

      Well, let's get to the point. I used the "item wizard" event action, and suddenly... a light into our gray lives... Well, not mine, if you looked at the line above this one, I'm happy. Or not the line above this one but the line above...

      Anyway, I saw this litte "add unique" thing, and I wonder what that is? Does that do anything special?

      Now you wonder: why in h**l doesn't he test it out himself?

      The answer is: I cannot be bothered! No, not really.. but my game isn't playable yet and I dont want a lot of "medieval" games lying around (since I never seem to trash anything).

      So, does anyone know what it does?

      In other words, it prevents you from getting two keys to the same door to cite one example.

    • Let's say that the Player has to get more than one of the same item in order to craft another item. What is more fun: Making sure that the Player can't get two of the same items so he has to go back to mine the item or let him mine as many as he wants so that he can have a cache of the same items?

      "Add unique" could only be used on the first encounter. If he needs more than one, but has to get them from different locations, "add unique" would block his getting the second item.

      I see this more in the following scenario: Player needs item to complete quest. Item is available at several locations. Once he has visited one location, he will not pick up duplicates by going to the other locations.

      I know of one instance where "add unique" was used in PoG. If you go to the Cyclops Cave you can pick up a Ring of Titan, but if you have already bought one or acquired it from some other monster, you don't get the gift if you already have it.

      It would be best if you could only mine some items, say that you can only mine 10 bars of iron in one mine, then it is empty. Or, the one who owns the mine sees you and runs after you when you've got 10 bars. Then you cant go back to the mine, because there's a guard^^.

      To clarify: "Add unique" is an option in the "item wizard" within an event. What it does is give the player an item (or items) if it / they are not in inventory. It does not prevent getting more of those items elsewhere if they are not tainted with the "add unique" stigma. "Add unique" is not built into the item itself, but rather the event which makes the aquisition possible or not. It does not show up in the Item Editor, but instead in the Event Editor. I hope that helps.

      You're right Ledorax. Thanks for straightening me out. I do that with apples. Sometimes a person gets TOO close to what they're making and then misses the obvious. At least, I do that. Thanks again!
