As I am Preparing Legends for beta testing, 1 major question has arisen. Is there an easy way to have a quick update system in which I can just have some pregram compare the old version and the new version and formulate an update of a decent size. I don't have the bandwith on my server network to handle people constantly redownloading the entire game when a new version comes out.

    • I don't think there is, at least with coldstone files. If you had your game on the server as coldstone files(You probably wouldn't want to do this)in your CS project folder,

    • If you're not planning on having plugins, make that sort of a "Patches" folder and automatically load them all.

    • For the Damsels in Distress Plugin, the whole folder is 20.8 MB but 9.2 MB of that is in the music folder. The Data001 file is 11.4 MB. If you are doing revisions for beta testing, all you need to do is upload the portion which has changes, usually just the data file.

Your testers will just have to replace the data file in the game folder as all the rest should remain the same. Perhaps that will cut your upload/download size some.

    • As far as I know the only bit that is changed when you re-compile a game are the data files. The best thing about this is that it is often the file that compresses the best. Unfortunately it is also likely to be the biggest single file. I managed to get the GoT 1.0 to 1.0.1 update down to about 3MB when the full version of 1.0.1 is 9.5MB.

One word of warning. Be sure to include BOTH the Data001.dat and Data002.dat files. If you don't include the Data002.dat file you will get the unregistered version bug. It is also no good using an old Data002.dat file as it comes up with the same bug. They must both have been compiled together.

Well it does decrease the overall size of it. Full version Compressed Size was 116.9MB. The update to the version is 76.9MB. However it isn't a large enough change. I havn't worked with the plugin feature in Coldstone. Would I be capable of replacing events in a plugin?

Yup. Just give it the same name as the original one. This works with everything in the game.

    • Only issue: Anyone could add plugins, AND you'd have to make a plugin for each and every thing (quite annoying, no?). If I were you I'd do a 3 or 5 part test with each phase beginning 2-3 weeks after the last. That way the bandwith strain is greatly reduced and you'll get better feedback (more time to test). Anyway, my personal opinion... It's good to hear that the game is almost done, though!!!

    • 1. What compression are you using
      2. What setting is it on.

If you don't want anyone on PC to test it then I suggest you compress it with StuffitX at the highest compression. That should be best. Anyone with Stuffit Expander 7 or 8 for Mac should be able to uncompress it

Sorry to reopen an old topic, however the plugins I use don't work. My game is set to auto load all plugins, and the plugin replaces everything except the pictures, and most of the Location pictures. I can't see why the puugin update doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

    • I don't like plug ins. For some reason my plug in for Magic Cheese crashed the game when you loaded it. And all I had done was a few maps that you couldn't access and a tile change on one other map

    • I just tried using the ask option for plugins and it never shows the plugin window. Even when there are plugins in the folder. What is going on?

    • And you have plugins checked in your misc tap in the options window? You also have the plugins interface defined in the options window?
