does anyone know how to take a bunch of 2d images (different directions etc.)and turn them into 3d?

There are a few, Metacreations used to make one called Canoma, works on OS9, but bought up by Adobe and shelved. Copies can be found on eBay. There are a few more around for OS X, but they are pretty pricey, around $1500 last I looked.

Turning 2d images 3d is not really practical for most videogames, because of the number of models required and the angles involved (are you really going to rent a helicopter to take top down views?). A much simpler solution would be to download a basic 3d app like Strata or Wings3d (both free) and take some time to learn them. Patience is key here, because I can guarantee you will be less than satisfied with your first attempts. Keep searching the web for tutorials and above all experiment. Don't try to make any actual models that are supposed to look like anything until you know what you are doing, or you set yourself up for disappointment. Once you get the hang of it though you will have more artistic flexibility than you ever dreamed possible.
