    • Coldstone updates?

      Hello,

I haven't been around in a while and I'm curious as if to either Ambrosia or Beenox have announced, or at least mentioned, anythiing about an update (to a 2.0, not just a bug fix) to coldstone? Any new features planned? Any game in production by beenox or ambrosia (not counting ours)? Anything at all?

      Thanks for the info!

    • Good question.

As DP stated, nothing has been mentioned; not even about a bug fixing update except that, "it's coming."

    • It's too bad to see that Beenox's attitude towards Coldstone hasn't changed. I think that if people considering buying Coldstone really look around at Beenox's attitude/work done as far as updates - they'll most likely not buy Coldstone.

I can't imagine what they expected to get out of Coldstone sales-wise. If you make a great product it will sell like one. If you make "what could potentially be a great app" and not support it because of lack of sales - the you can pretty much guarantee failure.

Of course this is my opinion, though maybe a bit bitter because I actually paid Coldstone. And I was looking forward to Coldstone's future.

I wonderif Ambrosia is considering brining the product in house for future upgades? This has so much potential (the reason I bought it) and it could go a long way. Maybe even a port to the PC!

I'm sure they've thought about it, if for no other reason than because they don't like to be promoting a game that is not being supported. However, the question is if they have the resources to devote to it.

And a PC port I would like. To my knowledge Dee had a quasi-working version of Coldstone for Windows, but it wasn't fully functional and had more bugs than the mac version(yes, yes, this is possible). Thus it has yet to be released.

    • Perhaps they (Beenox/Ambrosia) are waiting to see when and if anyone else creates and sells a comercial game before they spend more money on Coldstone. Maybe they are really busy working on an update and are unable to discuss it due to fatigue.

      One can dream...

    • What I like is how paying customers are being forced to speculate like this. I know this is the internet and we can't see each other, but technically we have been standing as a group in front of a vacant customer service counter for several months. The customer service people don't always tell you what you want to hear, but they at least show up. Especially if you've already paid for the product.

I can't speak for everyone, but I feel the need to be reassured every once in a while. I guess timidly checking Beenox' site for info isn't enough, so maybe I'll send an email.

Yes, I too know the dreaded wonders of PC bugs (hey look at windows - all of them!). But the PCs DO own the market share and if ported, maybe Beenox/Ambrosia could AFFORD to do upgrades. Well, that's my opinion, anyway!

    • And here I was thinking that Windows was just a single bug... - all of it 😉

For some reason, I doubt that financial resources is the root of the problem. Ie, I expect that Beenox can afford to do the upgrades. I believe wanting to/able to is the underlying reason.

      Now there's a surprise!

The thing here is what if you make a commercial game and sell a crap load of copies only to find that there is a bug and it's not your fault? You're company will look bad because there's a bug and you can't fix it. People will get frustrated and there goes your companies rep. Only because Beenox/Ambrosia won't put out that prescious update that will fix your bug...

On top of that there are things missing that maybe commercial companies would like before using Coldstone as the engine behind their game. There are a lot of workarounds to some things, but there's no way around others (ie multiple levels of blocking paths against players and/or weapons and true teams ro just characters on YOUR side)

    • i think "missing features" could go on forever and ever for what people want to add. personally i could care less about update as i dont see it happening before my game comes out and if it did i wonder what parts of the game would need redoing.

i think beenox has moved on and this is old news to them. i just plan on testing the hell out of my game with a small personal army and if anything is screwed up, who knows, maybe ambrosia can help since ima gonna publish throught them.

i dont know if the update is even in beenox's hands as i dont know what thier agreement was with ambrosia whatsoever. it could have been just a one time deal app and then it was all up to ambrosia.
