      just as i finished testing my coldstone resource page i got locked down so hopefully this is more "relavent" as i had to start a new topic......

      its got some kinks to be worked out at the bottom aka spacing but so far it works and the links are all good. i didnt include any current games being made with coldstone as many of the projects are dead and or dying so if youd like to have your game popped up on my page plz email me by clicking on the email button up top near my name that way i can make a list of current games 🙂

      hopefully this will help the newbie people in maybe finding knowledge to coldstone by clicking on the link and ill try and add it to the coldstone resource site pages even though nobody goes there to look at it which is why im putting this effort into my sig.

      updated: fixed the spacing problem at the bottom, and im also going to make a frequently asked question area mostly about art stuff and starting a project, getting a team etc. i also just added a couple links to the coldstone link page but eh.....

      Updated: added the frequently asked question area and completed (i think) the 1st topic, how to make graphics. ill finish the rest in a bit.

      well i dont know about that. im not sure where else to test ubb code so i can help the newer people find links related to coldstone by containing helpfull info in my sig. i guess i could change my sig everytime i make a post in trying to get this ubb code to work..... i was going to test it in just ambrosia chat but i figured the politicos would flip, next time ill just pass on the effort.

    • I love the helicopter game. It looks real fun. I just have a question: When you are the helicopter there are no access denied tiles, right? Well, have you found a way to make the copter fly over enemies, or did you just not have a colission sphere and have as little collision as possible?

    • the general idea for flying over enemies is not to because theyll kill you in most cases.since my best friend is actually taking the graphics and putting them in coldstone im not quite sure of the tech speak. so far in early tests were working on how fast the bullets come=how fast you can dodge. so far we havnt addresed the collisions. im thinking the game can work with minimal collisions as you will be strafing at enemies and really wouldnt want to run into them as it gives you less time to dodge bullets. but in some cases in chaos fighting you may bump into another enemy which could be annoying so ill see how it pans out in a few.

      CJ my friend has stopped working on the helicopter part of the game for just a bit as i delivered to him some graphics for the overhead part where your the strike team on the ground and hes trying to get that to work now. right now i figure, in two weeks well have most of that stuff sorted, two weeks more and the levels will be almost hammered out and two weeks more the character graphics and cutscene pics will be done. and right now i got sidetracked working on helping someone publish a book..........dammit.

      so to answer your question, i have no clue which way well go and were still trying to get all the stats and speeds fixed so we can have some balance in the game.

    • collisions:

      let's say you were flying along a shore line in your chopper, you get halfway up the coast and there's a cliff gun;
      " ! " (-Metal Gear)
      and as long as you're within its range, the gun will fire as long as it can.

      when you get ot the section of the map where the gun is mounted, the player unbeknownst walks into a trap, or event tiles, create a zone or a rectangular perimeter of event tiles that define the firing range.

      the event tile,


      -has a conditional if ' gb_gun001 ' is equal to 1; call event ' deGun001 '
      (begins deactivating gun001 if you're stepping on the perimeter of the zone, leaving.)
      else it does nothing.
      -sets a global ' gb_zID001 ' (zone id: #001) equal to 1 ( has been entered, this is also equal to a fire at will command)

      births an NPC with magnanimous range and;
      -a "0" collision sphere.
      -a range of 1
      -a map position 2 cells outside the zone
      -the NPC animations need to have a decent offset(from the collision) equal to 2 movement tiles
      outside of its zone.
      -is armed with a spell ' gun1.csp ' which has a conditional usage: if ( gb_zID001 = 1)
      -it also has a range equal to ( or greater than) the zone.
      -contains the effect animation (which should have an appropriate offset as well in order to
      place it exactly at the muzzle of the gun(, instead of at the actual position of the NPC).
      -note: magic type is pure damage, armor/stats negated...i believe blocking is as well.

      conditional that states: if ' gb_gun001=0 ' then:
      -change global ' gb_gun001 ' equal to 1 (gunning station has been ! 'ed.)


      the deGun(001 in this case)series of events(using a separate event allows for more actions),


      needs to:
      kill the appropriate gun NPC. (that way if the player does arrive at the NPCs actual locale, by
      leaving the zone, they will not collide)
      set global ' gb_gun001 ' = 0 (target out of range,standby, returning to normal ops)
      set global ' gb_zID001 ' = 0 ( cease fire/kill switch, gun can no longer be fired)
      push the player 1 tile exterior of the gun zone ( ' change player map icon , then from inside of
      the strafing animation call an event to change it back) this is necessary because the player could verily
      well step to the perimeter, deactivate the gun and fly around inside the zone, pushing them outside resets
      the zone.

      can:
      launch a separate (stamp) animation for the gun retracting


      completing the coupe/overthrowing the government (deactivating all guns/ zones at once) ,
      let's say you took out a strong hold and you want the player to be able to go explore the land free of conflict.

      at any good free moment during the game, a fade effect, simply fire an event that sets
      all ' gun/zone id ' globals to 0.

      building a simulation ,
      you can of course at selective moments activate zones and guns, this of course doesn't have to be zones and guns, and the idea of switches could be applied to any simulation where things constantly change, the device and the scenario you'd use to regulate the change is open.

    • hey im currently working on the page for what genres can be made with the coldstone engine, and i remeber a puzzle game? was amde with the engine. can anyone tell me the name, provide a link and what kind of puzzle game type it was and maybe what other kinds of puzzle games can be made. its one genre im not overly familiar with.

      hey also, this is prbably for Ell or anyone who can answer really, i just need base yes or no's,
      can a game be made where you walka round in a coldstone view, just running around all free whilly etc, then when a enemy gets close enough it turns pauses and loads into a turn based game? this way you could maybe have a game like fallout'ish? cuz i know Ell, yousaid you could limit movemnt so i picutred a final fantasy type game but with a twist, when you get sucked into a premade battlefield you would be able to roma around and fight via fallout turnbased. but can you actually have just like blank enemies walking around and when you get within a hostile range of one then it autotmatically loads the proper deal for the enemies on the screen and your stats also?

      also is there any way of making a forward momentum or side momentum shooter, kinda like deimos rising? i thought about this, would it be possible to actually have the game take place on just one screen and maybe have a very long level move constantly underneath you so it looks like your going forward. picture the entire level maybe as one big animated character that is running to a blank point at a certain speed and as it does it seems like the game is moving forward?

      just wanted to know for not only future games i think of but also to finish up my faq. thx all.

      1.'cosmic memory', included (source/graphics/compiled)on the CGE CD.

      turnbased ff-style.
      2. Yes (down to the scarlett letter)

      forward momentum scroller/shooter.
      3. No chance in hell...unless you opt to do a cheesy space shooter with a the animating starfield...or you can do it with a really low res 320x240(GameBoy size) that coupled with the player animation appearing as though he's got thrusters(making him appear to zoom when going upward), in addition the scrolling landscape would be nothing more than frames of slowly moving segments of land (that would launch events for oh say launching NPCs that also drift at the same pace and expire when the frame is out of view), the scrolling would still best be done if the images being scrolled were only features and not whole areas (ie mountains, rivers)...blah blah YES BUt only at LOW REs...why?! because you might kill the engine otherwise

    • what about a game like fallout where you walk around like in the town of diablo then can a radius be used to set off the turn based battle mode or are you better off using hostile aggression aka you click attack and its loads turn based mode or its triggered by a storyline? i think if you could even do the latter two a fallout game would work but it would be cool if the enemies somehow attacked you before you always started stuff so thats hwere a recognition would come in play or maybe a big circle around the enemy and when it touches it starts turn based?

      the battle setUp ( placing combatants, setting backDrops ) is either locally placed inside the ' target proximity ' event link, or is called from ' target proximity ' using a ' call event ' action.This is the ' stalker '

      2. Yes, however the battle setUp event now needs to be inside the ' Player Contacct ' event link.

      3. Yes. Now the setUp event needs to definitely be a separate event. This would be called as a linked action attached to a dialog action...
      you talk to Gio', you tell Gio' "you suck" Gio' challenges you to a street fight, you say "Ok.". When the player selects okay, the battle begins.
      Or of course this could be triggered when a player recieves a magical item, uses aan tem, meets someone, performs a forbidden technique...at anytime that you can call another event.

      4. The circle, is specifically, the ' collision sphere ', which has a radius determined in the animation editor, the smaller the sphere the closer the NPC must be to trigger a collision...0 radius just means that they'll walk right up on you but, you have to attack/interact to cause a conflict.
