i contacted this guy about porting this product to the Mac, either as a standalone application or a plugin for a 3D application, I specifically asked for Carrara because it's what I use, and it's (from what I understand), relatively easy to make two versions.
What this product does is provide you with a series of dials to create beings, of almost any shape you can imagine, go check out the stuff on their site (http://www.fxrsoft.com/). Why is this so great, you ask? What about Poser, you say? Well, Poser is great, it really is, but what some of you may not realize is that it ships with just about zero usable content for a video game, requiring you to purchase more, or create more, requiring tons of money, or tons of time and skill. The nice thing about creature creator is that you can modify the stuff you make with it in your 3D application, or in Creature Creator itself, unlike Poser. If you buy a werewolf, you got a werewolf.
What about the DAZ studio you told us about? Heh, that's nice too, and free, but you still need content, which costs money, lots of it. The average figure is $20, and to do a game, you'll need what, 30-40 different characters/beasts? You do the math.
The point to all this is the guy from FXR asked me how big the Mac market would be, well....we have 3-4% of the market worldwide...I wanted to know if you guys would be interested in such a product making it to the Mac, I know I want it. Drop this guy a line, maybe we'll see this come our way, it's about a $200 investment, but it's better than buying Poser, then content, or using the same grfx that someone else is using, or using Nintendo grfx on a fantasy game. And with point and click character creation, we can all be artists
So, what you think?
