I know you have seen the post "Is cold stone for me?"

As well as online playing...etc...as MMORPG suggestions... and people saying "not for a long time"

I am not looking for a free, simple, or stand alone engine... I am looking for something that will use OS X, Open GL, and Windows compatabilty, with internet conductivity, massive area play, etc...

I know Coldstone will do an iota of what I want to do, but if not CS, where would I go... money is an object, I don't have 150k to put down on ID's game engines... but I have several thousand...

Can anyone help me here? If this is locked, please E-mail me, I am looking for a Game engine for the Mac...and this seems to be one of the few that actually have Mac editors for the game engine...

I would probably use CS for a beta and introductory to the game for potental buyers/banks/funders...

CS does look like a good game engine for varios games, do not get me wrong, but I am looking for a RPG/FPS/MMORPG game...and although this engine will give me a start, unless they offer internet play, it will not be what I am looking for in the end.

      Thanks in advance.

I hate to break it to you, but Coldstone doesn't sound like the program you need. It specializes in making single-player RPG-ish type games, such as Pillars of Garendall, which was made using the engine. If you're looking to do a FPS or a multi-player game, CS just isn't what you need.

I know, but as someone told me before, to start with your dream "start simple". As much as I hate to do so...

    • If I were you - I'd go to game programming sites that have a forum and post a request for programmers (www.idevgames.com - is one). They's usually friendly and it might take a while, but if you find yourself a programmer it would be better than just buying some kind of engine. Besides, there are plenty free engines that offer amazing quality and MMORPG - the programmers would probably be better at knowing about them. As far as editors if you get an engine and a programmer they can make the tools for you, so that you can help out in content creation. Another great thing about working with a programmer is that if you have an idea that is not in the engine they might be able to add it.

I'm currently working on a game with a programmer and it's great to through out a crazy idea and have him go - yeah, no problem - I can add that in about an hour!

As far as using Coldstone for the demo - I wouldn't - the game you intend to create would be far too different than what the coldstone demo would be and this might not sit too well with certain investors.

      Good Luck!
