    • Coldstone to make Bolo?


      I've been reminiscing about Bolo for Mac (humor me for a moment...) and was wondering if Coldstone would be able to duplicate it...? I'm new to the software, but is it possible to do 360 degree rotation and shooting? Any pathfinding (for the little green man)? I guess multiplayer is out... I just read that it doesn't support it.

      I've been wanting someone to redo Bolo for OS X for a while, and my first thought when I saw Coldstone was "Maybe I can do it myself!" I'm also not a programmer at all, but it looks like I could figure out Coldstone.

    • Bolo isn't really the kind of game Coldstone was designed to make. Bolo is all about multiplayer and Coldstone doesn't suport multiplay. You might want to check out

    • Never played Bolo, i started on a vextrix (??? not quite sure that's it's name) on a classic.
      I think someone posted earlier that projectiles fly trough walls.. so that might be a setback

      maybe you should go to (url="http://"http://www.sourceforge.net")www.sourceforge.net(/url) and post about your project..

      Sorry, someone already beat you to it, Search around on MacGameFiles i think i saw a bolo clone for osx, but then again all he did was port it for osx, using the exact same graphics...ew.

      despite what patrick said you can develop a tank game similar to bolo, even improve on it. It's perfectly within Coldstone's original frame work and you'll need little or no workarounds to build it.since coldstone was built to make your standard overhead rpg. Sorry, i intially posted a method for you, but since i have a Tank Game project in development, (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ellrx/download/tank.sit")see the CocoaDR3 AlphaDemo(/url), i can't the divulge method. I regret being aloof but

      Trust me with a enough inguinuity you can manipulate the quite open ended coldstone to safely do it, i'm posting an alternate post that would be of help to you if i got a decent response. in the mean time there's a member posted projectile/shooting tutorial in the addon section of Ambrosia's Coldstone section.

    • Yes, you can develop a Bolo singleplayer clone in Coldstone but it wouldn't be anything like Bolo, which was all about Internet/LAN play.(there wasn't even a real singleplayer mode in bolo) If you want to make a tank game in CS, you could, but it wouldnt be bolo.

      ::sigh:: i know that and being able to adjust a NPC line of site value,my kingdom for the two. I see you edited your post to include TNT Basic to the list, that would offer the network support that you want, but it'd still be more work that you bargained for if Coldstone is your cup of tea.
      Oh and thinks for putting up the link to the MPW, i lost that bookmaark a while ago 😉

      Actually TNT was there already, the edit was for some additional C++ links. I've done a bit with TNT and it doesn't seem as if it would be much harder than CS to learn.
      You can compile Carbon apps with MPW(might need to download carbonlib SDK 1.6 from developer.apple.com) I would assume carbon apps still work under Jaguar 😉 MPW itself is a classic app though.

    • Thanks for all the info... because of the lack of multiplayer, it's obvious Bolo won't work in Coldstone. I posted a similar question on the TNT forum, and got NO responses... Not helpful. :frown:

      Hmm...think you posted in the wrong forum(feedback instead of programming Q&A;) 😉 You should be able to make Bolo in TNT, probably with the only exception being user-created bots.

      "TNT...It's my other silver bullet." Yeah, i'm just really starting with it now, it looks promising and the developers are very open to feedback...for instance i've been pestering them for a windows mode whether or not they already had plans to do so, is quasi irrelevant either way TNT is evolving.

      Don't get me wrong Coldstone savves me mad time when it comes to implementing an interface/object behavior, especially when you save game projects as templates.

    • If anyone wants to know, I used TNT Basic before, and mostly you have to do scripting, except for the few parts where you put in a backround/characters, but you have to put them in the game with scripting. It's basically for side scrolling and space invaders type games. Just thought I'd give a brief summary of it. Although, don't use it if you want RPG type games, CS is better for that, by far. I don't think you can make rpg game in tnt basic anyway.

      What's your source for all this knowledge
      are you as aware of;

      the scrolling,custom file I/O, variable support, full text commands, 8bit transparency, OpenGL accelerated sprite system, syntax coloring, high level commands and animation
      as i am, i didn't think so, because frankly if you were i don't think you would have posted your summary.

      TNT BASIC is a separate full fledged BASIC coding environment. It's suitable for all genres of game, RPG included.
      The only way i could see you arriving at this conclusion is if you did not comprehend the capabilities of the product,
      and or ask the very receptive members of TNT software the simple question "Can i build RPG's with it?".

    • Yes, you are correct; I didn't comprahend the capabilities. You know why? I didn't understand the coding. I read the scripting manual over and over, and somehow my codingng was always off. But what I did see of it it looked like what I said. I apologize if I am wrong, since I am not a programmer in the least bit.
