Ambrosia Garden Archive
    • How goes it?

I have to ask if anyone else out there is having any luck with coldstone. Frankly, I find it inconvenient and difficult to use. I have some great ideas for games, but as I look through the tutorial (brief and hard to understand) and the encyclopedia thingy (which is no help at all) I see that there are things I just can't do. Maybe I'm just really dumb (Eevin tho druggz oanli cill thu bad branesells); I don't know. So it would really be encouraging to hear from someone (besides Ambrosia or Beenox) who has finished or is well on his way to finishing a game.

    • What do you find hard to use about Coldstone? I haven't made any large games yet, but I have found Coldstone to be quite simple. Perhaps we can help you more if you give us some specifics.

I have created a game and have it availbale for download - is coldstone hard to use , I would say no, but it does have its frustrations and yes the manual is lacking alot. The best information I have gotten is off of this web board and looking at how the tutorial is made and pulling apart each piece to understand how it is made. But like anything new there is a learning curve - but compare coldstone to learning C+ and then ask yourself is coldstone really that hard to learn. Oh yeah, my game is available from my hotline server called Seventh Quest found on the larger trackers.

    • I suppose you're right. Coldstone isn't really that complicated and maybe I should be thankful that someone took the time to create this program. I probably just need to mess with it more. Did you guys learn how to use it based on the guides, or did you just screw around until you understood what to do? Squak, do you have an address for that game of yours? I'm curious to see what the average joe can make.

I learned through playing with the tutorial and reading the manual twice (more playing than reading) - Here is the IP but it could change - 24.61.209.49

I did a combination of working with the User Manual (to find out how things in a particular editor work) and making extremely simple PoG plug-ins. My first plug-in had a guy that gave you a sword when you talked to him. From there, I worked with more and more complicated things (the map editor intimidated me, but with the trusty User Manual it isn't too hard to learn) until I knew more about CGE than anyone else who wasn't a beta tester. šŸ™‚ (Now, of course, everyone around here knows about the same amount about CGE.)
