    • Just wondering.....

These boards are very small and not terribly active...which leads me to ask the question....did Ferazel's Wand actually sell that well? It'd be interesting to see how many people purchased FW. I'm thinking its not too many, evidence being our small webboard and the 33% off sale for FW right now.

    • Yes, it would be interesting to see how many people bought FW. I'm planning on buying some more copies of Ferazel's Wand once their Birthdays roll around: Oct. 27 (a day after mine!) January 30 and July 4th. There will be new MASCOT addicts here soon! šŸ˜„

That sale has been going on since last december! That's a long "limited time"!

    • The 1.0.3 updater only had 1165 downloads. Although the number of purchases was probably greater than that. If 2,000 people bought it at full price than Ambrosia made $60,000. After you subtract tax and production costs, that's not that much. I wonder why? I loved it, I think wonder how well Harry the Handsome Executive did?

    • $60,000.....huh....I wonder how much of that Ben Spees actually got to keep. I'm sure Ambrosia kept some. I'm not saying Andrew is a pirate or anything but its AmbrosiaSW.com not AmbrosiaSW.org šŸ˜‰

If you divide Ben's income by the amount of hours he worked of FW...I'd be interested to see what his hourly wage is.

    • Your guesses are not too far off. Neither Harry nor Ferazel did too well in terms of sales, though both got good reviews and provided valuable experience. Unfortunately, neither could provide enough of an income to live on, especially considering long delays between release of a product and actual receipt of royalties. It's difficult to make a living off shareware. If you wanted to have a go at it, I'd suggest either being a student with your parents helping out, or having a significant other with a regular job. It's just much too unstable to rely on.

If you calculate time spent on producing the games vs. money made from them, you'd have something floating right around minimum wage or lower...

      Ben

    • That's interesting.....I still don't see how you got banned though šŸ˜•

    • Heh...so I think people can stop asking "Why did Ben leave Ambrosia?" for the trillionth time. Woohoo! šŸ˜›

Speaking of, how are things in AZ?

    • I suspect a conspiracy against Ben Spees. Think about; the majority of the best games that Ambrosia has every created were by Ben Spees. And yet...
Remember kiddies, ALWAYS buy your shareware!
Mr. Spees* - Could you tell us what project you are currently working on? Is it PC? I know some people who might change platforms if it is. šŸ™‚

*What is the appropriate way to address Ben Spees? Is it Mr. Spees, Ben, Savior, or coding boffin?

That is of course a matter of opinion. I'd probably give the title to Matt Burch.

Matt may have only made one game for Ambrosia, but it was a darn good one. (EVO and Nova don't really count as being his games...not that he isn't doing a ton of work on them.)

I guess we argue what a "majority" is then..but that gets silly. It is, as Kanddak stated, a matter of opinion.

Harry is still my all time favorite Ambrosia game (Much as I loved EV and some of the others.) so I'd have to give the nod to Ben. My opinion only of course.

    • Confession time!

Harry the Handsome Executive was clever and well-made, but I found myself unable to get past the last demo level aside from one lucky time. Trash can.

Slithereens is, in my opinion, the worst of the Ambrosia games. Heresy? Perhaps. The premise is not at all original, and the keyboard response during gameplay was terrible, the mazes repetitive, and it quickly got dull. Trash can within 72 hours.

Ferazel's Wand was something I tested, and I'm durned glad I did that and not the other two games. It's fun, original, and it holds my hands-breadth of an attention span. Still on my computer (duh).

OK, I will stand in front of this wall and let you stone me now, since I defaced your God. šŸ˜‰ (Sorry Ben, but the above is the truth.)

PS...Favoring the arcade-style games generally, I think Andrew Welch himself should get the title for best games. Barrack and Aperion are irreproducable!

    • Hey, I thought I was the only one who played Barrack... totally addictive. Such a rush when the red balls explode and take everything with them... talk about the ultimate "non productivity tool".

I'll go back to sleep now.... not having much experience with games in general I'm in no position to offer a credible opinion. (But I have to say I agree with Spamguy on Slithereens.)

    • I agree, Harry was too hard.

      Slithereens....too stupid.

      Aperion...doesn't run on my computer

Ares....I waited so long for Hera that I didn't really care when it was released.

Barrack...what can I say bad about that game?

Bubble trouble...a little too physcotic for my taste.

      Chiral....what the heck?

Cythera...never really got into that one.

      EV....same as Cythera

EVO....loved it, can't wait for EVN

      FW....I stand before you

Mars Rising...awesome game, gets kinda repetitive though

      Swoop...whatever

Well I must agree with spamGuy on this one. Slithereens (ugh) the mazes were just a little hard I guess it's not my type of game. Bubble trouble: well it was OK (in my opinion).
      EV and EVO were great!
