    • Can't create a new map...

Every time I create a new map and try to go to it, the game starts to load the map, then crashes, with no error message.
      Here's what I'm doing:
Creating a new map, 70x70. Drawing it, setting access, etc.
Creating a Def file for it, which makes North Border Boberus.
Changing south border in the Boberus Def file to be my map.

      That's about it.
I also tried creating a location event (like the one that takes me to Spider Cave),
and again, it starts to load the map, then crashes. (I tried this because I thought maybe I was transporting into the map on top of a no-access area... nope).

Am I running out of memory somehow? Nope-- gave my game 250mbs (from Get info).

So I found the little PDF tutorial (the one where you add a 30 by 30 map with a
circular hedge). I did this map, and it worked no problem! Tried again with my own map, instant crash... no error message, nothing.

      Help?

    • Hrm.... just a few quick questions...

What's you System version? X or Classic (8 or 9)? If Classic, what version of CarbonLib do you have? Have you tried trashing the preferences file and then redoing the map?

I don't like the sound of this one, it feels like a corrupted file somewhere.... either in you game data or in CS.... maybe you should try a reinstall of Coldstone, and then test it with that.... just start a new, blank game, and create the map. Then quit, move the map into you original game>maps folder, and edit it along with the rest of your game.

If there are still problems, I think we'll need the system info. Good luck! 🙂

    • This is a plugin for POG or for a new game?

If it is for POG I experienced the same thing earlier but found that my problem was 1 of 2 things(never did test to figure out which one though, heh). Minor thing really. First make sure you have a map preview picture(I don't think that would cause a crash though, but it is good to have one). The second thing which I think was my crashing problem is that in the location definition screen for your map there should be a checkbox for "using the standard game interface." When I didn't have this checked POG would crash upon loading my new map when I would teleport or walk to it. When I had it checked it would load just fine.

Worth a check; may or may not be the problem.

      Good luck

    • AHA!
Okay Ambrosia, I've figured this one out, I think...

**1. Yeah, for some reason the Map seems to crash the game when loading if that map doesn't have a preview picture. And, of course, creating a preview picture in OSX can cause the whole Coldstone program to crash. Its probably all connected somehow.

**2. The map will crash out if it only has ONE LAYER. I'm not even sure how Coldstone manages its layers... but if you create the map, and it is fairly complex,
and you don't click on the little button to add a layer to the map, the map will cause your game to crash. Sad to say-- this doesn't happen ALL the time, and I'm not sure WHY, all I know is that when I created my Map, zapped the access, built the preview, and added a layer, the map worked. When I didn't do these things, often my map would crash the program while it was loading.

Are you listening, brave and wise Coldstone programmers? 🙂
