    • PICT and pct... they aren't the same

Both store the image as quickdraw instructions, but the PICT format stores them as a resource in the resource fork of the file and .pct has the image (instructions) as the data fork with no resource fork in the file.

Simply changing the name is not sufficient for conversion.

      Check both types with ResEdit...

Check file size with 'get info'.

Ok so which do you use? I 've made tiles and two layer items and aside from a white 'halo' effect on my objects, Ive no problem (other than my lack of talent).

What type of files do I want .pct or PICT?

      thanks for the help

Uh, no, PICT stores the picture in the data fork; many PICTs have a small preview image, colour tables, and other random image-editor stuff stored in the resource fork, which may be what you're noticing. PCT is PICT with the name shortened to work on platforms that only allow three-letter extensions.

Anyway, Coldstone seems to prefer that PICT files have the extension '.pct'.

    • I have used Carrara to produce a PICT file for my Startup Screen.

It crashes build EVERY SINGLE TIME, right at the beginning.

If I paste the PICT file into the Startup Screen that comes with the Medieval set, it works fine.

What do I need to do to my PICT files to get them to work in ColdStone? I have it set to .pct so it can't be that; there must be something in the format of the PICT file that is causing this to fail, but I can't figure out what it might be and how to fix it.

    • I figured out my solution...I must have pooched it when I converted from 32bit to 16bit (Carrara saves in 32bit even if you spank it not to); I tried again and for some reason it worked this time. I just used GraphicConverter X to dither down. Hooray for me.
