Ladies and Gentlemen, as you know we have something special for you at
Birdland this evening. A recording for Blue Note Records...
Let's take it back to the concrete streets, original beats and real live MC's...

Well, the link was great (much cartoon techniques in there), and explains a lot.
The question that comes to me is: why are those graphics much arcade like (even PoG ones)?
I'd like some more realistic ones (of course i understand they are much more difficult to do)...
...i think i'll practice a bit and then...

heh oh me too, traditional art is totally where it's at. I mean, 3D is all well and good when done properly (I mean, Diablo 2 is awesome), but I've seen way too many ugly rendered games and so many good lookin hand drawn games. But, everybody seems to be leaning towards rendered stuff these days, and I'm not gonna stop people from doin stuff that they wanna do....as long as people don't rag on me for doin a game my own style.

I'd like to think that I could do the graphics myself, but I'm probably going to end up using the Coldstone graphics library.
Who knows, maybe a mix? (Probably even harder.)
I think I need to see how diverse the library is, and how it's organized before I choose.

Don't read this.
100% that I'll use it for most of my game.
I really don't feel like rendering all new terrain, buildings, and townspeople when there's perfectly good stuff that comes with ColdStone. If there's any "Art art" ( :D) I need to do, like portraits, or title graphics, or random artwork or something, I'll draw that myself. I'll also try to track down some one to make sprites of two or three characters.
But it all depends on what Coldstone comes with, I guess.
Character Art: 100% I really don't feel like finding a copy of Animation Master or Poser and learning how to use it.
Landscape/Scenery: 0-50% Luckily, I already use Bryce for EV so making landscapes is gonna be a piece of cake. (Wait'll you see the underwater glass castle in my game.) (not that I'm ever going to finish the whole game, but if I finish the tileset for the castle I'll put it on a website somewhere)
------------------
Well, I'm going to be making 2 totally different types of games, one is space one is land.
I'd say 80% for my land based game. Characters and stuff like that I will make my own, but landscapes, ect. I will use the Coldstone graphics.
20% for my space based game. I'll be making a lot of my own graphics for that, since space is easier, in my opinion, to make graphics for.

just in case anyone cares I just finished the character animation set for my game (it took me a couple of months, and man, am I glad I got it done before coldstone came out---> all the graphics are in the traditional SNES style, and they look awesome) and whew...looks like all I have to do now is the scenery! yahoo!
(then agian, that should take me another few months....but it'll be well worth it)
sigh , well back to work....

You know what would be cool? Beenox releasing a graphics/sound expansion pack, sold separately. I'd buy that.
Catfish_Man: you use bryce? I've got my best friends and I, plus whomever else we can find working on a joint project. I used to work as an advertising designer, Simon Eastman, a friend of mine, who is a crazy old wierdo traped in his own imagination, and he seems to be good at writing plots, Jack Shepard, an amature soundtrack editor, and Spitfire from this board, who draws 2D pictures.
We have every intention of making several commercial products, and we've all got plenty of experience in things that will help an RPG take off, inside and outside of development. Want in? We really need a 3D artist.

Paddy Perring: I've read that tutorial, and the end result you get with that is nothing compared to what's in PoG (and likely what comes with coldstone's graphics library).
What is the REAL BEST way to make ground tiles? Well, it does involve photoshop, but it also involves an old console videogame emulator of your choice.
Take screenshots of ground tiles from old RPGs, and massage them in photoshop until they look significantly different. Copy paste them into one huge background layer, and paste all of your other stuff like rocks and trees onto it.

Definitely way over 100% for me. I love the idea of editing and creating graphics, but it's at the limit of my abilities to put a little smiley face in here! And they include a smiley face menu

Mwu he he... I'm making a game with an EXTREMELY surreal quality... I'm going to make sprites from ditial camcorder footage of some friends acting in front of a greenscreen! Then I'll use tilesets for the rest, and make some pixel-sprite monsters...
I may use the Coldstone tilesets, not quite sure that's what I want yet. Need to know if they have an Urban tileset first...

EVN is coming! Enganda Chron is Coming!
I intend to use the coldstone graphics, but not to the extent that I make my game look like a faceless part of the crowd with the same graphics as every other game....
But since I've got several other people I'll be working with, there will likely be some nice 2D effects.
That, and for my first few weeks of using coldstone, I'll mostly just be experimenting anyway.
