I was wondering if you can put different layers in one sprite. That would make a lot of things very easy wich needn't be explained. This was probably brought up before, but I don't care cause I can't find it anywhere. I was just thinking of the way that graphics are handled in the engine and I remembered that you can put infinite layers on the terrain. Does that mean you can have layers in sprites too? if that's not possible, umm... oh well.

    • Sprites are not edited in Coldstone, so you are unable to put other layers on them. However, Coldstone supports PNG's which can use Alpha Masks, would they be good enough for what you want to use them for?

Alpha masks? Those are only good for transperencies and stuff right? I was just wondering about layers for things like a monster who had eyeballs floating around him that I would have to render with him. Just sorta floating around his head. I already sorta know about alpha masks and stuff in PNGs. Thnx for the help though.

    • Sounds to me that you'll have to pre-render the eyeballs in your sprites. If you want "special effects" with regards to the eyeballs, like, all the eyeballs move to one side of the monster when he spots you, you'll likely have to have multiple sprite sets that swap out on based on events.

(The previous is based on pure conjecture, and 0% knowledge of the actual Coldstone engine).

    • hmm... you might be able to do something of the sort by putting the eyes on an "animation path" and randomly cycling which path it uses; that is, IF you can tie one sprite/figure to another.

    • Hey, sanehatter! I've been looking to ask you a question. Do you know of any programs that I can input sheet music and have it convert it to a sound file?

I sure would hope so... HEY! Wouldn't you know these kinds of things being a moderator and all? Just wonderin'. Because your response does sound a little skeptical, but I'll just wait for the engine and figure it out from there.

You might try emailing him, as it isn't guaranteed he'll read this thread.

      I'm not sanehatter, but...

      Logic Audio (www.emagic.de)
      Cubase (www.steinberg.com)
      Sibelius (www.sibelius.com)

They'll all make MIDI files. And if you want MP3, iTunes will convert the MIDI into it.

First of all, that's an extremely vague question. "Convert to a sound file" has a plethora of meanings, which I won't go into here. Check out either Melody Assistant or Harmony Assistant, they have a sheet-music style interface and can do most of what "convert to a sound file" implies.

    • Thanks, sanehatter and Armoya! The Sibelius link that Armoya posted has exactly what I want. Thanks again for your time!
