For what it's worth, Coldstone has changed tremendously since last June. You can play around with the old version, sure, but you'll be missing, among many other things:
-animation support
-several major revisions to the combat system
-separate movement/background tile grids
-custom map tile brushes
-OS X and Windows compilation
-masked, non-rectangular interface areas
-helmets
-alpha masking
(all of those from the progress log)
Plus tons of bug fixes, changes in the way things work, more intuitive editing, and much much more. Therefore, I would suggest that you wait for the "real" Coldstone, because using the old public beta will likely just be confusing and give a false idea of the capabilities and limitations possessed by Coldstone.
Also, I doubt that Coldstone will be able to import files created under the old beta version, so any work you do in it would have to be strictly for practice.
