well now that I replied to something Chill said I know how to implement italics and bold.. but anyway. I think maybe some a**holes that got too obsessed with the whole mightiness of AD&D; and some people take it to extremes. Not every RPG is made off of the whole dnd thing. Come on folks, to think so is to be wrong. AD&D; is not the final authority on everything roleplaying, and I'm sure they'd admit it. Chill, you said about the most ignorant and foolish and plain out worst thing to say up there. This is an RPG creating discussion board, not a modifying one. What you just said goes against what you said about how you shouldn't use premade graphics, how you have to be creative. Well what do(/b)(let's see if that bold thing works) believe then chill? To go against "roots" is what this whole thing is all about. We're creating new RPG's, not just changing old ones. To sum this whole rambling up, I think you're so deluded that you can't see past AD&D; to the beautiful worlds of Diablo, of Everquest, of Quest for Glory. But at least you can see into the completely optionless and controlled world of FF7, where the only choice is your party members. I'm sorry, but I cannot stand when people refuse to call any RPG that isn't AD&D; an RPG. It just makes me angry.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I tend to favor console RPGs such as the Final Fantasy series for their depth of plot and character involvement. Such games are much more adept at storytelling and emotional impact. However, I do favor the freedom of other examples, such as Baldur's Gate, but they leave everything to imagination. The characters seem more like a random set of stats rather than living things. I will vie for a console type format with MANY branching paths and freedoms of choice. I have come to this conclusion as my game is strongly supported by plot and character involvement. Best of luck to all.

      #1 shut up
#2 go eat a strawberry sundae you'll feel better 😄
#3You know what's funny about that I've never actually played D&d; or AD&D; it just looked too stupid and motionless (I grew up on Console RPGs) I only use it too relate to all you "I shall smite you with my +2 sword of deadliness" dorks out there
#4 you still need to go back and read the UBB tutorial, and maybe go learn some HTML while you're at it
#5 I love turnbased, I admire FF7 it was fun and if you don't likke it you can kiss my frozen blac-- well you get the idea right, Mr.Smilie gets it don't you Mr.Smillie? 😄
#6 No "young one" ,cback many a year ago (about 2), CGE was about turnbased traditional
      framework RPG's
, what ever your PC/NPC,storyline,art,interface or plot resembled was up to you. The battle system was preset and there werne't too many options, In fact it was "optionless" , as some would say
#7 I know more about CGE than you imagine, don't describe its purpose to me...
#8 Who said anything about changing old ones, and tell my this how would I do this "Mr.smart ass"
#9 These games will be more adventure based, we're basically building
zelda,w/spells&levels; (like FF adventure for the GB). Deal with it
#10 Of Course, there are alternatives to this realtime drudgery , email me and find out...

    • I agree with Brent. But...... if they want to make terrible games then that just means that mine and yours will be better than everyone else's...for the originality..if nothing else.

    • True it is that you cannot classify an RPG game by anything other than examples.
If you say that an RPG has to have statistics in it... Where does that leave Chrono Trigger?
If you say that an RPG has to have only one person in it... Where does that leave Cythera?
If you say that an RPG has to be turn based... Where does that leave Diablo/Baldur's Gate?
BTW, The original Diablo was originally designed to be turn based, but Blizzard convinced Blizzard North to make it Realtime.

If you take all things into account.. EV is an RPG
It has stats but they aren't essential to the game structure (legal and combat status)
It has only one person but you have a crew and possible esscorts
It is realtime but days don't pass like they do in REAL time.

As for you guys up there, be NICE!!!

    • Nobody said they were going to copy anything, as for declaring something terrible without seeing it or before it even exists, that is just plain pathetic! Are you so biased in your ways that you are not open to the ideas and opinions of others? There are both advantages and disadvantages to turn-based and real-time; I prefer turn-based because I want to focus on story, characters, awesome spells, and strategy, rather than button pushing, hack and slash, hit the enemy with your sword repeatedly with absolutely no hint of actual skill whatsoever type action. I'm not saying that Coldstone is the latter, I am merely stating my opinion of the experiences I have had with previous real-time battle systems. I love Zelda, but I consider an adventure; Myth is great, but it's classified as RTS; Diablo's a big hit, but it is merely a hack and slash dungeon crawler. Really think about your statements before you pass judgement.

    • ok now I got the whole bold thing down right?

yeah so I was kinda ranting up there, but get used to it. I'm not leaving in a hurry, chill. And about strawberry sundaes......ick no. I prefer vanilla. But back to the topic then.... um what were we talking about?

oh yeah! the roots of role playing.
see to be honest, chill, I have never played an RPG that was not on a computer or N64. yeah. sad huh?
I still don't know what 1d6 means. I haven't figured out 1d12 +4, I mean I thought it would do 1-16 damage or something, but noooo. Every time Minsc hits something with his Warblade +4 he does 26 damage.
But the bad thing with AD&D; is that it got too big and too complicated for anyone other than an addict to enjoy.
And that is why we have coldstone. Coldstone will be simple(I hope-no I pray) because people like me tried to make a level with Myth2 and failed. Why? Because it was too complicated without any explanation. People like me tried to make a level with Starcraft Editor and succeeded. Why? Because it was simple with plenty of explanation.
I'm going to state my point before anyone else falls asleep. I'm not the smartest person on this board, and I hope to God that CS will be easy to use, for my sake, if not anyone else's.

Coldstone is easy. Don't worry, an idiot could do it.

    • eheh...I have an imagination.a strange one but all the better..Its like making maps..if you put in the right time and take it easy BOOM and BANG its gonna be good (providing you know what your doing)However if you go in there 4 hours..its gonna be crap..All you need is a patients..AND a imagination..(OH and if anybody is wondering I don't hate FF..i've never played it but apparently its good so..BLAH!) 🙂

Yes my frige is running..why?, oh OH MY GOD ITS ESCAPED AGAIN!

    • BTW FF is turn based, except they substituted the SPD (speed) or agility or whatever stat, and instead of whoever has the highest speed stat goes first, they now have, higher speed stat, faster ATB goes up...it ends up the same, except you cant take a crap in between rounds..

I think that turn based would be better, because the games looks like it would suit turn based....i dunno why...just looks that way.

Stop the flaming! It seems people's views have been presented, now there is chaos, please put this topic to death mods.

    • Although this is a discussion forum and I believe you can post whatever you want as long as administration allows it, I disagree with the above statement the Chill quoted you on. We all copy features from various games that have influenced us, even the major developers (perhaps that is why sports and racing games are (controversily) progressing so slowly in terms of everything but graphics). In fact, recent games, though great strides have been made in terms of creativity and ingenuity, are in fact clearly linked to games of yore. The bottom line is that all our games will resemble pioneers before us, whether it be Final Fantasy, Zelda, Baldur's Gate, or others. Even the Coldstone engine supports common and popular RPG features. You cannot judge someone's work from the above comments. With that said, I too would like to see fresh, inventive new ideas come from Coldstone to further enhance the genre. If you think now is exciting, wait until the release and a year thereafter.
