    • Looking for artist

I'm planing on making a small, basic adventure game, and I'm planing on using default graphics/music. It's going to be kind of like EV, but an RPG set in a far back time, something I'm trying to make as a pre-made game for people to make addons/modifications for, as editing PoG will probably be discouraged.

I've got a lot of interface/charicter data allready planed, and I'm looking for someone who can do a little bit of light artwork for the game, mostly backgrounds and music. It's not going to be much to do, just something for people to play arround with editing, for those who don't have anything major planed.

It will be a freeware game for sure, but it's not going to be a big, long, three-months-in-production type of game, E-Mail me at Madman@Diplomats.com if you're intrested.

    • I hate to be blunt, but 3 months is not a long time. They made it sound like it would take a lot of time to make a coldstone game, I don't know how much. I'm gonna spend as much time as I have to to make a good game.

    • Well, it won't be small, I'm just saying it's not going to be a very big game, what I'm trying to do is make a game that people can freely edit and make addons for, like EV, as I'm not sure the people writing PoG would like beginers changing it.

It will have multiple storylines, but will be loose and flexible, also like EV.

    • You guys are too much !!! Each trying to make his own game, and hoping it will be the best of all Coldstone's user... Of course I'll do the same, but don't you think trying to make a global gamen in which every volonteer will participate would be much better ? I mean, we all have ideas, I think we are all able to make a (good) RPG with Coldstone, but a game made by us all can be a must... Think about it... 😉

    • sounds like this game will be kind of a framework for others who think they'd like to build a CS game and want to flex their wings before diving out of the nest. from what i understand, tho, CS games won't allow the addition of plug-ins. that is, once a game is compiled, it can no longer be edited. if you built a small game that worked as a whole and released it without compiling it, i'm sure it would be the best imaginable tutorial for someone considering using CS. not sure if it'd change your karma status on the boards, but i'd call you saint madman. 😄

at the moment, we're rather like poker players, all boasting about our hands but not willing to show any cards. fwir, i'm not even sure if any of us are sitting at the same table. let's keep our sense of humor about us. i know i, for one, am not yet playing with a full deck.

Yes, that's why you see companies such as Eidos, LucasArts, Sierra and EA signing up 15 year olds they've never even met to work on their computer games. I think that you are too much, buddy. I've been part of quite a few out of house productions, either they have been published below standard or scrapped bacause the members have all walked away. The only person I am using in my production team who isn't working physically along side me, is my artist, who is a proffessional who will sign a contract him and me draw up.

    • Since the begining, I've planed a "Standard" game, which will just be a basic, loose game, which others are free to fool arround with, just to have a small premade game to fiddle with, for three reasons.

First, I was a big fan of EV, and I liked the way there were so many modifications, scenarios, or entire new storylines you could just add on.

Second, as with all game editors (And Coldstone should be more complex than most others) the tutorial(s) may not be quite enough for some people to be able to make what they want, and I'd like to have an example of some of the features people can include in their games, which I plan on putting in a read-me with the game.

Third, I may be wrong, but I don't think the creators of PoG would want people editing it in the way so many people have made addons for games like Escape Velocity and Ares.

Hmm.... I'm starting to think I can handle the graphics end on my own anyways... I've started making my own custom skins for UT and The Sims, how much harder can it be to make game skins for a Coldstone RPG?

Okay, I guess that means that this thread is no longer functional, since there is no conversation that could follow... I think this thread is ready to be closed...

    • Can I just point something out, about your idea for this coldstone game that other can edit?

One of the reasons the EV editing was so popular was cause EV had a great and enthralling storyline, with plently to do along side of the main plot. You'd have to have that in the game to make people WANT to edit it, and that could take more than a few months.

I'm not doubting your ability to make a good game, definately not. I'm just saying that yeah, a few months isn't a very long time, and a game that poeple will want to add onto will require a lot of planning, finding a perfect balance between closure on plot, and leaving things open for editing by others.

The other thing is that people will have the ability to very easily make there on games with Coldstone, and i think most poeple would rather create their own game than add onto an existing one.

Basically, what i'm trying to say is that I think a game like what you are trying to make, while it would be excellent, and I certainly hope you do make something like you want to make, I think it needs to have a large world, but with plotlines that don't end things. Like the way the confed/rebellion conflict had decisive moves made, which left the player with a feeling of accomplishment, but the conflict still raged. Same with the UE/Voinian conflict. The worlds were huge, but the plot lines didn't finish off anything decisively.

This is just the advice that comes to mind, Good luck with it!

He stood, paralysed as the beauty of the pattern unfolded under pressure, the hectic chaos forming designs more intricate then the smallest smile.

    • Well, game creation time would be greatly reduced if you are not making your own graphics and sound, and, like in EV, the only thing you can do (Except in some plugins) is develop your charicter, and buy better ships and weapons. My game will include multiple diffrent guilds, nations, and areas, with common tasks like in EV such as deliver goods to a certain place or assist in a battle, and like EV, I intend to allow the option to alter the game from certain events, such as joining one of two nations that are at war with eachother, and helping one overcome the other.

And of course, unlike EV, you probably won't just be able to drop a plugin into a folder, and play it, you'll need to download a completly diffrent version of the game. Thus, I will need to make it small, and I will probably choose to switch to old, low-res graphics, just to keep the size down. Plus I like older games like FF4 and 6 because of the 2D graphics, and it's much simpler to identify objects in the game.

    • And besides, without any plugins, EV and EVO's plots weren't very involving at all, it was as if you weren't having any affect at all on the war, no matter how many battles you won, how many freighters you robbed, how many planets you sacked...

I hear ya, brother-man. Honestly, I can't think of anything I'd like more than to make a game that looks and feels like Chrono Trigger or FF6. Real-time, fully interactive 3D graphics are nice and all, but honestly, to make a good RPG you need to be able to see the forest through the trees. I think it's time for a little nostalgia trip: Mr. Peabody and I are on a journey back to the distant age of 1992, when 16-bit consoles roamed the earth!
