    • Balance

I'm going to start off with an example.
Diablo2, made by Blizzard, is a great game. Unfortunatly it was not balanced all that great. I'm willing to bet that over 60% of all online D2 players are playing as the Barbarian class(there are 5 different character classes), 20% as the Necromancer, 10% as the sorceress, 8% as the paladin, and 2% as the Amazon. Wow. Not balanced at all. Everyone played as the Barbarian because they were just so powerful. Blizzard Entertainment has been trying to balance it better, but so far not much has been done. If your RPG includes character class choices try to balance them out, no one wants to play an unbalanced game. All you have to do is find the strong character and then you can't even lose. In diablo2 I tried the Barbarian and quit because it wasn't even fun anymore.
If you want to other people to enjoy your game it has to be balanced well. Unless the other people are cheating freeloaders... grrr...
Oh speaking of other people playing our games I was wondering if there will be a special site set up linked to this one where we can put our games up for download. This is probably too unreasonable so I'm betting you can advertise it on the web boards and then make your own damn site because Ambrosia probably has better things to do.

    • Well, GlueBubble's HL server would probably be the place to start. Theres info and pictures (not coldstone pictures, just stuff like title graphics) about some of our games. Once your game is released I guess you could upload it there, or make your own website for it. If Ambrosia publishes it for you then it would probably be downloadable from this website, or you'd have to buy it online and they'd ship it via CD.

    • I agree, unbalanced games can really spoil the experience for anyone playing them. Blizzard has a history of unbalanced games, and I hope in the future they can correct their mistakes.
Having a site where you can post your games would be a great idea, but I'm not sure if Ambrosia should be the company burdened with it. It could take up a helluva lot of disk space with bland, 15-minute games that people just threw together and wanted to post on the site.
      P.S. Thanks for the D2 tip 🙂

    • Or, make your games unbalanced and point out the unbalances. Therefore, it could be almost like choosing a difficulty level. The easier everyone knows it to be, the less respect you get for doing good. The harder path you choose, the more sympathy you get if you do badly. Just a thought.

But I completely agree with the D2 example. Those classes :are: supposed to be equall.

    • So it would kinda be like star fox! You pick your path, one is easy, one is medium, and one is hard. beating it on easy won't earn you much respect but beating it on hard will. So say (in a tiny small game) you have 3 classes. A warrior, an archer, and a magician. The warrior would be the easiest but there might be less secrets of not as cool weapons, while the magician may be insanely difficult but there is secrets galore (similiar to Deus Ex).

    • And remember, this means thouroghly testing what you've made. I made an ares mod once that was a total failure, it was complete trash, it had no functionality whatsoever, it was like a poorly made arcade game.

Sadly it was among the most downloaded net scenarios.

Maybe I should email a moderator...
