I believe Dee was referring to a tutorial scenario built into the Coldstone game editor, not the full-fledged scenario we'll ship at the same time as Coldstone.

Hmmm, that is an interesting concept. Now I would also like to know if it zooms out so you can see the whole map.

No -- actually, I think being able to "zoom out" would actually be somewhat detrimental to gameplay in some cases.

    • Oh, i see, now that i realize it, it wouldnt be that much fun to just zoom out and see everything, but if you have a map kind of like the map omen gives you in cythera, that would be GREAT! 😄

Most games rely on making things look good for your point of view. If you could zoom out, the author would need to add much more artwork than necessary, and it might run very slow. Plus it would be pointless if you could see EVERYTHING ahead of you...

    • It would, however, be nice if you could have the illusion of zooming in/out at certain parts of the game. Not as a feature of gameplay, but (GlueBubble launches into his ideas)

      Picture this:

In the background you see yourself and your companions from high above, a new mission is being given, and text is scrolling across the screen (like the missions in Warcraft) as the mission briefing ends, the camera zooms in to regular zoom, and you begin to play.

      End.

Anyway, you would be able to get around this, I am sure, but it would be nice if it was a built in feature, so you wouldn't have to go mucking around with doing a QT movie or something like that.

You can easily simulate this using the Coldstone engine as it is currently.

I'm in Virginia for the holiday, and the cookies on my browser always remembered my password for me. It sucks.
