A dune RPG would be cool. You have an advanced and complex society, but wars are fought with swords. (This is because there are shields that are impassable to all objects over a certain speed, making guns completely useless.)

I loved plying Dune on the Amiga, I was always Harkonan (I think), I hated those Atrodite or whatever it was...those green guys were pretty cool though. Dune 2000 sucks though. :frown:

    • I'd like to see hybrids, but not too much like FF. I hate it that it's practically only swords. I think magic and technology would be a cool mix, but don't overuse swords. 😄 😄 😄

    • Actually, Mark Borok's idea sounds pretty cool... But personally, I think a hybrid, if done well, could be awesome!! I have some ideas, but I have no idea what can be done with Coldstone, so...

As of yet, none. However, here are some coming attractions:

      umm... Never mind.

    • I would like to see the lovecraft mythos in an rpg, though it take some ephasis away from combat. A good horror rpg would be nice though.

It seems like many rpg's are stagnant, following Tolkien mythology mainly. I agree that some brighter 16th century like worlds would be nice. I would also like to see at least one really big, detailed city, that has power struggles of its own. I personally prefer small detailed areas to wide, empty spaces.

Oh, and Fallout was a very cool game, it had a nice western feel to it.

    • Hi all,
Speaking of westerns, how about an RPG with a Western theme with some sci-fi elements thrown in for good measure? No, I'm not talking "Bat Durston, space marshall in his trusty ole spaceship 'Silver' complete with young, goofy sidekick" kind of thing. Maybe something ala the excellent anime Trigun perhaps... Hmmm

(Starts scribbling ideas for his latest game)

      Back to the topic 🙂

Obviously my vote is in for sci-fi. I think this genre isn't as well developed as it could be. A fantasy game with a good storyline would still be cool, but, as has also been pointed above, I think the ideas, characters and quests that get flung about are getting more and more cliched. Either too much Tolkien or too much TSR, not that either of them are bad, it's just, you know what they say about too much of a Good Thing™.

    • What about modern-day rpgs? EarthBound comes to mind....

    • Meh. I prefer a lack of guns... perhaps medieval... i just dont like the whole dungeon/knights/kings thing... hmm... how can i exclude this type of thing and still make my game realistic... ooooooh goody... idea.... what, you think im going to tell you? 😄

    • Damn, I can't remember the name of the book, but it had an Otter, a Bear, and some other thing in it. Also a wizard named Froghorn Fairingay, as well as a wizard whose name reminded me of Gandalf. If anyone has ever read these books you will know what I am talking about. It combines the technology of, I would say about probably 1865ish (You know, slow loading rifles, etc.) with elements of fantasy (I mean, c'mon there is a Bear an Otter and some other thing that walk around and talk....hmmm maybe they take human forms though....). Wow, I think I am going to have to read those again and take some ideas from it. 😉

And so the problem remained; lots of people were mean, and most of them were miserable, even the ones with digital watches. Many were increasingly of the opinion that they had all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that the trees had been a bad move and that no one should ever have left the oceans. - Douglass Adams

    • I definently prefer medievil to sci-fi. Like in FFVII/VIII where some characters used swords while others used guns. I laughed at the stupidity of it quite a few times. Medievil is much better, really I don't know why. I just like the simplicity (or extreme complexity) of them. I really don't like kidish RPGs like zelda, pokemon (if you want to call it an rpg), and legend of mana. Chrono Trigger was a perfect blend of sci-fi and medievil though, and the epoch made it believable.

Ohh, damn you. You took my bascic reason. I love the idea of medevil weaponry. The use of guns is way too easy that you can win without even being near an opponent. That is why I like Zelda, Realmz, Exile, and Warcraft. The games are just cool. I also love the idea of magic. 😛

    • I would have to vote for a hybrid...

I love both types of RPGs, but fantasy RPGs are getting way too repetitive, and there just aren't many sci-fi RPGs out there.

I would love to see someone make a Robert Jordan based RPG set in the Age of Legends...that could make a very good hybrid 😉

Great, just the thing to give me a headache from working too hard :D.

I just got a scenario for Realmz made with divinity. It gave me a few awesome items (ring of defense +7 and safu juice(mental enhancer)). It then flung me into a futureistic world. It was alright at first but soon began to suck. After about 30 min of playing, I decided to trash it. Don't get the Spires of Steel scenario, it alters the world of realms into a futuristic state in which the game is not meant to be.

    • I have to vote for the hybrid. But then, don't overuse the guns. And when you do have characters with guns, make them very hard to kill and you need some kind of shield to protect you. Also, what's wrong with swords???

    • Dupliate post. Sorry. :frown:
